Excavation to be carried out as per drawings, coordinates and levels with allowable working space for

Temporary erosion and sediment control measures are maintained during construction or until

permanent measures are completed and functioning in a satisfactory manner.
Excavations are inspected daily for possible cave-ins, failures of protective systems and equipment,
A4 hazardous atmospheres or other hazardous conditions. Inspection are also done after rains and
blasting.
The positions of underground obstructions such as pipes, electrical cables and other utilities shall be

determined prior to the beginning of any excavation operation.
The Contractor shall contact all NG-SA utilities departments to determine the locations of underground

utilities.
A7 Work permits shall be obtained from the appropriate supervisor before excavation work is started.
Whenever the presence of underground pipes, cables, vessels or structures is known or suspected,
A8 mechanical excavations shall not be used until all such obstructions have been exposed by hand
digging.
A9 Mechanical excavators shall not be used within 3 meters (10 feet) of any obstruction.
A13 Safe entry and exit to excavation/ trenches shall be provided every 7.5m.
If excavation bracing is required, description of the materials and shoring system to be used shall be

available for the Concerned Inspector
If excavation bracing is required, plans, sketches and calculations prepared by Contractor shall be

available.
If excavation bracing is required, plans shall indicate the sequence and method of shoring installation

and removal.
If excavation bracing is required, plans shall indicate whether or not any components will remain after

filling or backfilling.
If rock blasting is required, the Contractor shall develop a written Rock Blasting Safety Plan for

approval.
Excavations are not allowed to intersect a 45 degree plane extending downward from the edge of
A20 existing foundations unless an engineered support system is in place prior to start of work or
excavation is in stable rock.
All reference points, property markers, bench marks, etc are maintained during excavation, backfilling,

compaction and earthwork.

All temporary drainage and dewatering methods and disposal of water are subject to approval by Saudi

Aramco.
Surface water are prevented from flowing into excavations by ditching, trenching, forming protective

swales, pumping, or other approved measures.
If required, an approved dewatering system is installed and operated when necessary to lower

groundwater.
All diverted and pumped water shall flow to specified collection areas and shall be disposed of as
B6
directed by the Saudi Aramco Company Representative.
