Purpose
This document describes how to upgrade the MSC Firmware Version to 0x63,
setup the fans speed and control LED stripe dimming

General information

Upgrade to FW Ver 0x63 is necessary to run the fans and led control.
One option to verify the firmware version is to open the covers, if the connector (see below
picture) is plugged in to the MSC and the LED is on (on the Gantry cover ) that means that
the firmware is 0x63 and we can skip step 1 ,
If the connector is unplugged and the LED is on it means that the version is older and it is
necessary to upgrade before using the patch

Instructions
1. The MSC board operated by FPGA with Firmware and ARM controller running
Linux operating system.
This document describes how to change the MSC FPGA firmware by transferring
new MSC firmware file (*.rbf) the file will be uploaded to the MSC flash memory by
using the Micro SD flash card, this uploaded file will be used to load the MSC board
FPGA.

a. Tools required
• Micro flash SD card 8GB or 16GB FAT32 format.
• Micro SD card to USB adaptor.
• U-boot.scr file
• msc.rbf file

1. Upgrade MSC to firmware 0X63

a. Exit the D-SPECT software

b. Power off the system.
c. Take off the systems head white cover (only the white cover with brakes operating
Push buttons)
d. For the Firmware update the SD-CARD should contain the files
a. u-boot
b. msc.rbf
e. make sure to connect cable 9040482-02 to J67 on MSC board
f. Insert the SD-CARD to the MSC board per picture below

g. Power on the system power from the main switch and wait for the systems fans start
spinning.
NOTE: when systems fans start spinning it indicates the FPGA loaded
h. When firmware upgrade done, take off the micro SD flash card
i. Switch off the D-SPECT power from the main switch
j. Close the system covers
k. Turn on the D-SPECT system main switch
l. Verify the systems fans start spinning

2. Download the patch “MSC firmware 0x63” from the service web site

• Run “SoC-Slave_patch001-LEDS_and_SideFans” to adjust light and fans speed

• Click “YES”
