LESSON FLOW LEARNING TASKS

CLASSROOM-BASED HOME - BASED

REVIEW Ask the learners to recall the definition of matter/ five things
about matter that were studied in chemistry (Grade 9).

ACTIVATE Group Activity. Let each group read and understand

Genesis Chapter 1: 1-31 and let them use the pictures
diagram below to trace and describe the “Story of
Creation”.

In the story, ask the learners to list stuffs where the

phases (solid, liquid, gas) of matter are represented. Let
them include their characteristics/properties on the day
when they were formed.

IMMERSE 1. Discussion of Concepts.

Ask learners to work in a group for the activity. The
learners will describe/differentiate the following through
examples. Reference Material (SLM, pages 5 -7) may be
provided by the teacher to each group.
a. Extensive versus Intensive Properties

b. Physical versus Chemical Properties

Ask the learners to present their group outputs before the

class.
For students’ deeper understanding on the concepts,
discuss the chemical properties of matter particularly on the
following.
a. Melting point
b. Boiling point
c. Density
d. Solubility (saturated, unsaturated, supersaturated)

Present illustrative examples where mathematical

calculations are involved.

Illustrate filtration, distillation, and chromatography to

separate the components of a mixture/substance from one
another through video presentations.

2. Let learners perform ENHANCEMENT ACTIVITIES on

pages 14 – 15 in the SLMs provided.

The students may refer to the link provided below -

SYNTHESIS “Chemistry Tutorial video – Classifications of Matter”
and let them explore on the separation techniques and
other STs through internet search.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHhnm2p5G3o&t=445s

Ask them construct a detailed MIND MAP that will

show their understanding of how these methods are
used/described.

I-Google Mo!
EVALUATION Ask the students to visit the link below and let them
perform the learning task as indicated to assess what
they have learned on the topics presented.

Mini – Documentary
Plus
(Additional Activity) Traditional Separating Techniques (TST)

 This activity could be performed in a group of

students in the same locality. Let them observe
IATF Health Protocols.
 Let the learners:
1. Explore and make a mini-documentary on the
Traditional Separating Techniques (TST), the
methods and processes involved, their impacts

(socio-economic aspect) to the lives of our

ancestors – grandparents and relatives in that
age. (Let them ask the assistance of elders or
other members in the family/barangay to help
them describe and explain the processes
involved on the techniques.)
2. Perform or let others demonstrate at least three
simple traditional separating techniques (TST),
or one method for a complex TST. If the
technique is still utilized and practice in the
community, take the actual processes/methods
embroiled.
3. Upload your mini-documentary in the class’
Closed Facebook Page.

Provide this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?

and the scoring rubric on pages 17 – 18 in the self-
learning module to guide them perform the learning
task.
