What is Voice?
Voice refers to the form of a verb that indicates when a grammatical subject performs the action or
is the receiver of the action. When a sentence is written in the active voice, the subject performs
the action; in the passive voice, the subject receives the action.
Example:
Active: The award-winning chef prepares each meal with loving care.
Passive: Each meal is prepared with loving care by the award-winning chef.
In the above example of an active sentence, the simple subject is “chef” and “prepares” is the
verb: the chef prepares “each meal with loving care.” In the passive sentence, “meal” is the
simple subject and “is prepared” is the verb: each meal is prepared “by the award-winning
chef
In addition, the object of the active sentence becomes the subject in the passive sentence.
Although both sentences have the same basic components, their structure makes them different
from each other.
Active sentences are about what people (or things) do, while passive sentences are about
Example:
Active Passive
● Mr. John teaches poor people. ● Poor people are taught by M. John
● The children ate the food in the morning. ● The food was eaten by the children.
In the following sets, the “A” illustrates what the subject is doing or performing, while in the “B” it
illustrates what happens with the subject.
Remember: If the subject is performing the action, then the sentence is in active voice. If the
subject is simply receiving the action, then the sentence is in passive voice.
After the discussion, the teacher will have an exercise in which the students will use the active and
passive voice based on the pictures presented.
After the discussion of the previous topic, the teacher will remark about active and passive voice
and introduce the upcoming topic which is the tenses of the verb "Past and Perfect" but first the
teacher will conduct a Kahoot game with the students to get an idea of what the next topic is.
Once the teacher has explained how to play the game, she will provide the kahoot link and game
pin.

the class.
PAST PERFECT TENSE is used when you are talking about a completed action before
something in the past.It is formed by using the word “had”+ past participle of the verb. It
expresses activities that existed or occurred before another activity in the past.
Example: We had finished dinner when James called.
2nd column of irregular verbs had + 3rd column of irregular verbs (Past
Participle Form)
(Past tense Form)
Example: I spoke in a conference today
Example: I had spoken in that conference last
year

learned the topic that the teacher discussed.
Direction: Read the poem and there might be different tenses but focus on finding the past
tense and past perfect tense. Write your answers in the chat box.
After reading the poem, the teacher will select a random student's answer in the chat box
and let the student present his/her answer on how the tenses of the verb are used in the
