fractions, decimals and percent
Review the definition of fraction, decimal & percentage. How to
ABM_BM11FO-Ic-4 convert fraction to decimal to percentage and vice versa.

Let’s answer the essential question.

Have you ever wondered how frequently we use fraction, decimal,
and percent in our daily lives?
Look at your surroundings. What professions use the terms fraction,
decimal, percent in their work. Why? Write your answer in your
journal.

Concepts of fraction, decimal, and percent are often used in our

daily life.

Wet market like the “Pamilihang Bayan or palengke” is the common

place where we usually buy our day to day food products. The buyer
used to ask the seller “Magkano per kilo?” and the seller used to
answer “Php___ per kilo”. If the buyer cannot afford the price per
kilo he/she will opt to buy it in a lesser amount. Then the seller will

use the weighing scale as shown.

The calibration of a weighing scale must adhere to the rules set
forth by the Department of Trade and Industry.
A kilo represents one whole and it could also be represented in
decimal; e.g. half a kilo is ½ kg or 0.5 kg’, a three-fourths kilo is ¾
kg of 0.75 kg.
Decimal can also be used with simple marketing activities. Money or
peso value is hard to express in fraction form neither in percentage.
It is best to express it in Decimal form. For instance, if the buyer will
only pay for a ¾ kilo of pork with Php 350.00 worth a kilo, how much
will the buyer pay? It is not common that you will pay it at Php262
½.
Things to ponder
Fraction, Decimal, and Percent are essentials in our daily activities

● Solve problems involving purchases is ₱25,500.00 with a 5% discount when paid after 10
fractions, decimals and percent days. What is the amount of the discount and the net amount that
will be paid in availing for the discount? Suppose you do not have
ABM_BM11FO-Ic- any tools to use to compute for the discount, what will you do?

Solution:
Applying the concept learned it is easy to do manual operation on
this problem, first you convert 5% to decimal and then proceed with
the operation of multiplication.
To compute for the discount To compute for the net amount to pay
₱25,500.00 x .05 = ₱1,275.00 ₱25,500.00 - ₱1,275.00 =
₱24,225.00
