Career Decision Making

Academic and Choice of Career”

Expected Date: March 23-24, 2023

Venue: San Roque National Highschool,

Bulusan National High School,
Bulusan, Sorsogon

II. RATIONALE AND BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT:

The word “guidance” originated back in the 1530s and is defined as the
process of directing conduct. Career guidance can be defined as a
comprehensive, developmental program designed to assist individuals in making
and implementing informed educational and occupational choices. In simple
words, it is a journey on which people develop to make mature and informed
decisions. It is the act of guiding or showing the way; it is the act of seeking
advice. (Education, 2015)

Career guidance is the guidance given to individuals to help them

acquire the knowledge, information, skills, and experience necessary to identify
career options, and narrow them down to make one career decision. This career
decision then results in their social, financial, and emotional well-being
throughout. (Education, 2015)

Most students, especially, those who will be in college are having a hard
time choosing the career path that most suits them. Many factors could affect
their decision making and one of these is their chosen university and basic
information about their choices of careers.

In relation thereto, the Microfinance Students Organization will

implement an external community project venturing career guidance as
promotional activity, and it is entitled “Gearing Up for College: Career Decision
Making” with the theme, “Developing Linkage Between Academic and
Choice of Career” on March 23-24, 2023, at Bulusan, Sorsogon. The career
guidance will be a two-day event starting from March 23, 2023, which targets
participants from San Roque National High School, primarily the level of Grade
11 with a total of 70 registered enrollees and on March 24, 2023, the target
participants are from Grade 11 students of Bulusan National High School, with a
total of 320 registered enrollees.
The purpose of this project is to guide the students in their career
decision-making by linking their academic and plan for future career endeavors
based on their interests, knowledge, and abilities. It also aims to promote Bicol
University Gubat and introduce the courses offered at the university together with
the BUG College Student Council, Department-Based Organizations’
representatives, and Department Chairpersons.

To implement this community extension project, the MFSO will invite the
BUG-CSC and Department-Based Organizations to be part of their project as
their major partner. The MFSO will also invite the Department Chairpersons of
each course as their speakers to provide information regarding the courses
offered at Bicol University Gubat. Additionally, they will also provide
tarpaulin/brochures containing information on the courses and department-based
organizations offered at the university as their promotional materials.
