This is pursuant to Republic Act (RA) No. 11480, which amended RA No. 7797,
providing that the President, upon the recommendation of the Secretary of Education, may set
a date later than the last day of August for the start of the school year in the country or parts
thereof in the event of a declaration of a state of emergency or state of calamity.
After conferring with the Office of the Executive Secretary on the applicability of the
decision to private schools and other non-DepEd schools, DepEd hereby clarifies that such
private or non-DepEd schools that have already started their classes, or are scheduled to start
classes on August 24 or on other dates ahead of October 5, are allowed to proceed provided
they are strictly using only distance learning modalities and that there are no face-to-face
classes. These schools shall submit the relevant documents to the Regional Director as
required by DepEd Order No. 7, s. 2020 (School Calendar and Activities for School Year
2020-2021) as well as DepEd Order No. 13, s. 2020 and DepEd Order No. 17, s. 2020 on
readiness assessment.
In Sta. Cruz Elementary School, the opening of classes started with a short program,
where singing of Philippine National Anthem, Prayer and DepEd Leyte Hymn respectively
was observed. After the preliminary activity, Mr. Alfredo C. Devota, delivered his welcome
remarks and the reading of message from the Regional Director through Cecilia Bacalanos
was done thereafter. The Hon. Micahel A. Arnado gave also his message of support to the
Modular Approach as the official Learning Delivery Modality of Sta. Cruz Elementary
School. Right after, the singing of Han-in-Hand, a unity song headed by Emalyn S. Labra
was conducted and the GPTA President gave his words of appreciation to the parents and
teachers as he delivered his Closing remarks.
The Program was spearheaded by Mrs. Leliosa D. Sanglitan, Grade I teacher.
OBJECTIVES:
Some of the Parent were hesitant to enroll their children because no one can facilitate
their children in answering the SLMs.
PARTICIPANTS FEEDBACK:
There were lots of questions from the parents on how they will answer the SLMs of
their children. More so, they were not in favor of the Learning Delivery Modality and they
wanted to have face-to-face.
The opening of classes was done smoothly, where upon entering the parents inside the
school premises, checking of temperature and wearing of facemask were observed. The
parents logged also their name in case of contact tracing. The teachers prepared two boxes for
the distribution and retrieval of modules in order to avoid physical contact with the parents
and the teachers.
AUDIENCE PARTICIPATION:
Some parents were hesitant to get the SLMs, some were actively waiting their turn to
get the modules of their children.
LOGISTICAL ARRANGEMENT:
The parents were all accommodated, all of them felt comfortable and safe as required
health minimum standards was observed and implemented.
