STUDENT’S RESPONSE:
To convince someone to believe or do something, ma’am.

TEACHER:
Yes you are right, Regencia. How about argumentative and
informative?

STUDENT’S RESPONSE:
Writing that uses factual evidence and logical support to
convince the reader of a certain way of thinking, ma’am. And
informative ma’am is like giving information ma’am.

TEACHER:
Okay . Okay thank you very much. So who can give me an
example of these three topic for speech writing?

STUDENT’S RESPONSE:
In informative ma’am is news reporting ma’am, and in
persuasive is advertising and lastly the argumentative ma’am is
like debating.

TEACHER:
Thank you everyone for your answer. I believe that all of you
really understand our previous topic. So, let’s proceed to our
activity today.

C. Establishing a ENGAGE
purpose for the
lesson For this activity, the teacher will play a song entitled “Tears in Heaven”
by Eric Clapton. The teacher will ask some students what they think
about the song.

TEACHER:
Are you familiar with this song?

STUDENT’S RESPONSE:
Yes ma’am.
Dili kaayo ma’am.

TEACHER:
Okay. I want everybody to listen, sing along, and feel the song
because, right after that, I’ll call somebody to know what are their
thoughts about the song.

Would you help me stand?

I’ll find my way

TEACHER:
What do you think is the message of the song?

STUDENT’S RESPONSE:
A message to someone who passed away, ma’am.

TEACHER:
Do you know what’s the story behind this song?

STUDENT’S RESPONSE:
No ma’am.

TEACHER:
Okay, this song is actually dedicated to his four-year old son
Conor, who was accidentally falling from a 54-story apartment.
That was tragic, right? He mourned for the loss of his son, and
so he wrote this song for Conor. That is why if you listen to this
song you will also feel the agony of Eric of losing someone,
right?

STUDENT’S RESPONSE:
Yes ma’am.

goodbye to our pet, family or relatives who died, right?
Because I experienced that too.

STUDENT’S POSSIBLE ANSWERS:

Really ma’am?

TEACHER:
Yes. I was wrecked and in mourning, and I feel lost to the point
that I feel that my soul has died too. It feels like my world has
turned dark. But so much for that let’s now proceed to our

STUDENT’S RESPONSE:
Eulogy ma’am.

TEACHER:
Yes. Very good that speech during burial is called eulogy. So
today open your book on page 294. Kindly read the message of
Delma B. Diquino to her pet Papoy. I will give you 5 minutes to
read the text.

Many of us give importance to valuable things that we

acquired either by working for it (things bought, earned,
awarded, etc.) or asking for it (prayed for, wished for, hoped
for, etc.). It’s hard for us to part from them because although
they are inanimate, they are deemed precious. I was like that
most of my life… always treasuring the hard work and
sentimentality that comes with my “precious things”; my
awards, clothes, appliances and what not. I thought having
most of them will be enough to fill my day to day goings-on.
Heck, I even need some of it for my job and everyday
communication. All of that changed when a cute husky pup,
barely a month old was given to Mommy as a valentine
present.

Every day was a happy day with Papoy around. Even

when there’s nothing else to see on TV or to do on my PC, she
would still manage to keep the family busy. I myself could just
watch her for hours wag her tail, bark at strangers or change
positions as she slumbered. Doing the most mundane stuffs
around her made me content. I pretended that she understood
me when I said things to her, maybe she did sometimes. She
was a very good listener and an effective stress reliever. She
kept me company a lot of times when people had to leave to
attend to something important. She was the go-between when
we all needed to bond with each other. She was the family
mascot.

By now I know you realize that this has a sad ending.

Papoy passed away 9:15 this morning (August 5, 2011). I
guess having a pet for the first time, we did a lot of things
wrong and we are partly to blame for the virus that took away
Papoy’s life. But there’s no question that she was loved and
doted on by the family. We only wanted her to be happy
because she made us happy. How I wish we could have done
more. I never thought I would feel like this for a pet that I
cannot even consider all mine but Papoy filled a void inside me
that I cannot explain. She gave so much without her realizing
it. And now I don’t know what to do with myself. I am so lost
and confused. I couldn’t stop crying. I miss her so much.

Now, to me it seems that a lot of things I used to

DETAILED ENGLISH LESSON PLAN

10 Third Quarter Week 3/Day 6 273

consider valuable is not so important anymore. Knowing

Papoy and the gift that she has given to me and to my family
made me aware of living, relationships and contentment. I
appreciate all the more that only the love you give and the love
you receive will matter in the end. Keep life simple and
childlike. I know I did, for a time – with Papoy.

TEACHER:
Okay time is up! What do you notice of the text?

STUDENT’S RESPONSE:
She wrote their times when her pet is still with her ma’am. And
she also write their good times together and how important is
her pet to her.

TEACHER:
Very good observation. That’s right. When we deliver a eulogy
we have to include or good or bad times with them, our
moments with them and how important they are to us right?

STUDENT’S RESPONSE:
Yes ma’am.

 After the discussion, the teacher will proceed to the next

activity.
G. Developing ELABORATE
mastery (leads to
Formative TASK 2: ROLE PLAYING
Assessment 3)
In one(1) whole sheet of paper the students will going to write their
answer in the question of “What do you want to be remembered for?”
for the first half of your life. Write at least 2 paragraph.

STUDENT’S RESPONSE:
In this life full of uncertainties, I believe that death is the
only certain. I was mesmerized how life is indeed
wonderful. What do you want to be remembered for? The
kind of question that left me in deep thought for hours
before writing this. It is actually something that has
strangely been on my mind a lot lately. So what do I want to
be remembered for? Well, a lot of things came to mind –
some superficial, some pretty deep. But as I thought and
thought and thought some more, there were really only two
things that kept popping up. To be kind and compassionate.

I believe that kindness can change lives, heal wounds, and

most certainly help others. But I want to be remembered
not just as someone who is kind, compassionate, and helps
others; I want to actually BE someone who is kind,

compassionate, and helps others, whether I am

remembered for it or not. Helping my family overcome
challenges and obstacles, helping strangers (that become
friends) pursue their passions, and everything in between.

 The presentation continues.

H. Finding practical EVALUATE

applications of
concepts and skills WRITING
in daily living
In a one (1) whole sheet of paper, the students will write their
own eulogy to dedicate to their pets, family or relatives who
passed away.

STUDENT’S RESPONSE:

There isn’t a day that you don’t cross my mind. Some days you’re just
my mom who got cancer, fought so hard to live, but died before I was
able to know everything about you. Then there are days that your
voice is all I hear. It’s my voice. Your laugh? It’s mine too.
Mom:

It’s been 5,000 days since you left us. But, who’s counting?

There isn’t a day that you don’t cross my mind. Some days you’re just
my mom who got cancer, fought so hard to live, but died before I was
able to know everything about you. Then there are days that your
voice is all I hear. It’s my voice. Your laugh? It’s mine too. I hear it in
the morning when I’m snuggling your grand babies. In the afternoon,
when the day has been long, your voice of frustrations and exhaustion
are On Nani and not only somine. But at night, when I lay my head to
sleep, your voice is what calms me. I replay our last conversations in
my head. I miss your voice, mom.

It’s been 714 weeks since you left us. But, who’s counting?

After you were gone I would see you everywhere. I swear I once saw
you walking though campus when I was in college. I followed you until
you disappeared. I sat outside my dorm every day for the next week
waiting for you to pass again. You didn’t. A few years later I worked
with a woman who had your hands. I told her that those were your
hands. And she let me hold them for a bit. It was nice to hold your
hand again.
It’s been 164 months since you left us. But, who’s counting?

I made so many mistakes after you died. I needed your guidance to

push me in the right direction. I strayed. I disappointed. I did almost

everything wrong. But those misguided steps led me to Matt, my

husband. He’s pretty great, Mom. I know you would love him just as
much as I do. And those crooked steps that led me to love also made
me a mother. Triplets, mom. Three beautiful, smart, amazing, miracle
babies. I finally did something correct. Even though it took some time,
your guidance did push me in the right direction. It’s been almost 14
years since you left us. I’m counting.

In those years I’ve grown from a 21-year-old college student who had
no idea how to move on after her mother died to a 35-year-old wife
and mother who created a way to live without you. It seems I’ve lived
two lives – with you and without. I had an amazing childhood thanks to
you. You gave me so many happy memories. When you died I had so
many regrets, though. Those sorrows haunted me for so long. I lost
myself. My life was so hard without you.

In a perfect world you would be here with us. You’d be spending you
weekends spoiling your FIVE grandchildren. You would be helping
pick pumpkins instead of us picking flowers to freshen your grave. But
life isn’t perfect. I would give anything to have breast cancer never
even be a part of our lives. But is was. It is Everything happens for a
reason, right? All those wrong turns led me here, mom. I imagine you
in Heaven silently leading me down the right road. There were an
abundance of bumps along the way, but I fought my way over them
and made it though. I’ve finally made it, mom. I am beyond happy.
