Якщо людство незабаром зникне, що
майбутні археологи дізнаються про
їжу, яку ми споживаємо. А головне,
чи залишиться щось із неї придатне
до споживання й через тисячі років?
8 вересня 1941 року почалася блокада
Ленінграда, яку вважають найгіршою
в історії з огляду на число жертв.
Голод був таким страшним, що
звичайними стали вбивства за пайкові
картки та поїдання трупів. Хоча
випадки людожерства були
поодинокими, страх перед канібалами
перетворився на масовий психоз.
Поліція навіть погрожувала
непокірним громадянам ув'язненням з
ними в одній камері.
Утім, попри те, що люди дійшли до
крайнього ступеня відчаю, одне
джерело їжі залишалося
недоторканим. Генетичний банк
Інституту рослинницької
промисловості в Ленінграді й до
сьогодні зберігає найбільшу колекцію
насіння у світі.
Це - найповніший каталог генетичної
інформації про всі відомі нам
рослини. Якщо якийсь вид рослин
зникне у зовнішньому світі, насіння,
зерна та бульби, які зберігаються в
банку, використають, щоби відновити
його.

thousands of years after the apocalypse
If humanity soon disappears, so what
will future archaeologists find out about
the food we eat. And most importantly,
will there be any of it good for
consumption after thousands of years?

Leningrad began, which is considered

genetic bank of the Institute of Plant
Industry in Leningrad still maintains the
largest collection of seeds in the world.
This is the most complete catalog of
genetic information about all known
plants. If a plant species disappears from
the outside world, the seeds, grains and
tubers stored in the bank will be used to
restore it.
Exhausted and tired by hunger, the
employees of the institute defended its
storages at the cost of their lives.

найдовше? Але щоб відповісти на це
запитання, потрібно зрозуміти, чому
