SCRIPT FOR CONDUCTING COMPETENCY ASSESSMENT

“Good morning everyone! My name is Edwin San Buenaventura and I am your Accredited
Competency Assessor for Shielded metal arc welding NC II.”

“I would like to acknowledge the presence of Miss _______, a representative from TESDA
Provincial Office. Good morning Maam!”
“Don’t worry about her presence because she is here only to oversee the conduct of the
assessment and to check if it is in accordance with the prescribed competency assessment
methodology and procedure.”
“Before we start please submit your admission slip. Thank you.”
“As I call your name, please acknowledge by raising your right hand and sign in the
attendance sheet.”
“Miss ______, please sign, thank you. Miss______, please sign, thank you. Miss
, thank you.”
“I have here with me your accomplished application form and self-assessment guide. This is
an indication that you know and can perform a fully competency enumerated for Shielded metal arc
welding NC II.”
“I would like to welcome you all to our assessment center for your assessment Shielded
metal arc welding NC II. The purpose of the assessment is to determine the level of your competency.”
“Today I am going to administer the competency assessment for Shielded metal arc welding NC
II. The qualification for this is composed of basic, common and core competencies. The core
competencies which are to be performed in today’s Shielded metal arc welding NC II assessment is:
1. Weld carbon steel plates and pipes using smaw

“To determine your knowledge and skills in Shielded metal arc welding NC II, the assessment
methods to be used will be written test, demonstration and oral questioning.”

“For your personal needs, the lavatory is located at the end of the hallway, and you can take
also your meal at the canteen located near the lobby. However, during the assessment you are not
allowed to leave the assessment center.”

“If you have difficulty understanding the given instructions, please don’t hesitate to approach
me, I am willing to translate it for you. Also if during the written examination you find it hard writing
down your answers please inform me because I can accept your answers verbally.”

“If you have questions or clarifications concerning the assessment, you may raise your hand
and I am very much willing to assist you. But once the assessment has started please refrain from
asking questions, it is no longer allowed. During the assessment, if you have physical or any form of
difficulties don’t hesitate to call my attention so that we can address it immediately.”

“In case you have some questions regarding the assessment results, you have the right to
appeal. You can submit it to the TESDA Provincial Office where the assessment center and I as your
assessor are accredited.”
“For the issuance of the National Certificate, the Assessment Center Manager shall inform
you where to claim your National Certificate five working days after the assessment.”
“After the assessment and you are found to be Not Yet Competent, don’t worry about it
because you can be re-assessed anytime at your own convenience. In case the re-assessment is full
qualification, you have to undergo the whole assessment process. If you are found to be competent in
some units of competency, the assessment shall focus in the unit of competency where you are found
to be not yet competent. Also if you failed in two consecutive assessments, you will be advised to
undergo a refresher course before applying for re-assessment.”
“During the actual assessment, please observe safety as you perform the different tasks.
Make sure to check on your electrical equipment before plugging it in . In case of accident, please call
my attention immediately so that we can provide you with first aid . The first aid cabinet is located
just at the end corner of this room.”

“With regards to the results of your assessment, we observe strict confidentiality. This is to
ensure your integrity. The result is only made available to authorized personnel and to the institution
where you had your actual training. May I ask all candidates to refrain from giving away any
information that took place during the assessment process.”
“If you don’t have any more questions or clarifications then I am going to distribute the
Specific Instructions. Please read them carefully and don’t hesitate to ask questions. I may be able to
translate it from English to your local dialect. If you need assistance, then I am more than willing to
assist you.”
“I will give you your assigned number. Here’s for you, this one is for you and another one for
you.”
“So everybody must be very ready now. Candidate no. 1 please proceed to the assessment
area. For the rest of the candidates please remain seated as I call you by your number. Thank you. This
way please candidate no.1.”
“Candidate no. 1, this is the assessment area where you are going to demonstrate. If you have
any questions regarding the instructions right now, please do so because as soon as the assessment
begins you can no longer ask questions. (Candidate has no further questions). In that regard, you may
now begin. Please be informed that after the demonstration there will be an oral questioning.”

“You are indeed competent in performing the different skills in Hairdressing NC II. However,
I have noticed that you forgot to use the materials needed while doing the demonstration.
Furthermore, you were not confident in answering the questions during oral questioning.”
“But then, you were able to answer all questions correctly. And the result of the written test
showed that you are knowledgeable enough about Hairdressing NC II. Congratulations for a job well
done! I’ve found out that you are already competent. Please sign the CARS. Thank you.”
“For the issuance of the National Certificate, the Assessment Center Manager shall inform
you where to claim your National Certificate after 5 working days. Again, congratulations!”
“Candidate no. 2 please sit down. How do you feel about the assessment? What will you do if
you will be asked to perform hair spa and hot oil treatment again ? So what did you learn from this
session? Thank you!”
“Candidate no. 3 you were able to Hair reborn treatment. Actually you were very good at it.
However, you were not able to deliver information and commentaries. Based on the result of my
observation during demonstration, the outcome of the assessment is that you are not yet competent.
However, you can be re-assessed anytime at your convenience.”
