That’s right. Thank you!
And yesterday, you also had an activity,
right? Yes, Sir.

And what was your activity all about?

What have you learned from it? We used a color wheel to identify the
frequency and wavelength of the
colors.
Exactly! What else? What other
takeaways you had from the activity

as the color with the lowest ones.

Precisely! Thank you!

Today, we are going to talk about the

common properties and characteristics of
light. Since we already had a prior
discussion about light, I am sure that you
have, somehow, some knowledge about
our topic today. But before we proceed,
let’s first have an initial activity.
This activity is called, “Guess Me!”
I will show you two images, pictures, or
graphics. And from those, you have to
guess the hidden word, term, or acronym.
Understood? Yes, Sir!

Okay, let’s have a trial game first.

What do you think is the hidden word for

this?
Yes, that’s correct.
Shall we start now? Do you know what

hidden word?
Let me call on, (Student’s name) I think it's a color, Sir.

You’re correct. Please take your seat.

Let’s now proceed to our next hidden
word.
Who can guess?
Okay, let’s give the chance to (student’s
name).
It's ROYGBIV.
Exactly!
Okay, next.

Yes, (student’s name)?

It’s brightness, Sir.
Thank you, that is correct.

2. Engage (5 minutes)
Before we proceed, let me present our
objectives for this topic.
Everyone, please read. At the end of the lesson, the learners

4. apply the understanding of the
characteristics of light to
practical situations in daily
life.
Now, I have some images here.
What I want you to do is classify them
into two. If you think the image is
portraying something related to
brightness, you have to classify and place
it under brightness. And if you think the
image is about color, then you have to
place it under color. Understood?

Alright. Thank you!

Thank you, everyone for participating.

Now class, what can you say about the

pictures? There’s an involvement of light, sir.

Alright, that’s correct.

What else? If in all those pictures, there’s
an involvement of light, what does it
imply? Light takes part an important part in
our life.
Exactly!
Who would like to choose among
pictures and then tell us how the
involvement of light in the object or
picture you chose is important to us, The sun, which gives us necessary

to do in our everyday basis.

That’s nice. Thank you. What else? The light bulb, which gives light that
makes us see things amidst the
absence of sunlight.

That’s a great point, as well. Who wants

to share one more? The headlights of cars, which keeps
people to see the road clearly to get
on their destinations safe and sound.

That’s great Thank you.

So, as you can see, light really takes an
important part in our daily lives, right?
Yes, sir.

concepts and practicing Brightness, intensity, and colors.
new skills #1 That is correct. Today, we will talk about
brightness and intensity, and colors as
characteristics of light.

E. Discussing new Let’s start with intensity. Based on your

concepts and practicing own understanding, how would you
new skills #2 describe the intensity of light?
It is the power of light, Sir.
Alright. Thank you. What else?
Related to the brightness of light.
Yes, that’s also one. Thank you!
Let’s see what the intensity of light is.
Who would like to read the definition in
the presentation? (Students raising their hands.)
Yes, (student’s name).
Light intensity refers to how bright or
dim a light source appears to be.
Okay, thank you.
In other words, it’s a measure of how
much light energy is present per unit
area.

Let’s proceed to the next characteristic,

the brightness. Who would like to read
the definition in the presentation?
Okay, (student’s name) please.
Brightness refers to how much light
is present, or how much light is
perceived by an observer.
And by ‘perceived by an observer’, what
does it imply? It depends on the person seeing the
light, sir.
Yes, it means that brightness is subjective
and varies from one person to another
who sees the light.

Now, the next characteristic is the colors

of light.
Can somebody please read what the
presentation says?
Yes, please.
Color is the specific hue or shade of
light that is perceived by an observer,
Okay, thank you! and is determined by the wavelength

characteristics of light, I will let you
watch a video. And after watching the
video, you have to answer these
questions on a whole sheet of paper.
Understood, class?
Yes, Sir!
Alright. Please watch and listen carefully
for you to be able to answer the questions
correctly.
(Proceeds to playing the video.)

Guide Questions:
1. How does the wavelength and
frequency of light relate to the
color?
2. How would you describe the
relationship between the
amplitude and the brightness and
intensity of light?
3. How does dispersion occur?
4. How would you measure the
brightness of a light source?
4. Explain (15 minutes)
Okay, class, are you all done answering
the questions? Yes, sir.
F. Developing mastery
(leads to Formative Then, please pass your papers in front
Assessment 3) before we answer the questions.
Okay, 1,2,3,4, and 5. All papers should
be in front already.

Now, let’s answer the questions.

Number 1, who would like to answer? (Students’ answers may vary. But it
should be something like these.)

1. How does the wavelength and

frequency of light relate to the
color?
Different colors of light have
different wavelengths and
frequencies. For example, red light
has a longer wavelength and lower
frequency than blue light. This is why
we perceive red light as being
"warmer" or "less energetic" than
blue light, which is perceived as
being "cooler" or "more energetic."
The visible spectrum of light ranges
from approximately 400 to 700
nanometers (nm), with violet light
having the shortest wavelength and
highest frequency, and red light
having the longest wavelength and
lowest frequency. All the other colors
of the rainbow fall in between these
two extremes.
Precisely! Thank you. Please take your
seat.
Now, number 2? Who would like to
volunteer?
2. How would you describe the
relationship between the
amplitude and the brightness
and intensity of light?
Increasing the amplitude of a light
wave generally makes it appear
brighter and more intense.
That’s correct. Thank you.
How about number 3?

3. How does dispersion occur?

Dispersion occurs when light travels
through a medium and is separated
into its component colors. This
happens because different colors of
light have different wavelengths and
therefore different speeds as they pass
through the medium. When light
enters a medium, such as a prism or a
droplet of water, it is refracted, or
bent, by the medium. However,
because different colors of light have
different speeds, they are refracted by
different amounts.
Exactly! Thank you.
And for the last question?
4. How would you measure the
brightness of a light source?
Using a photometer.
That’s right! Thank you.
Have you all answered the questions
correctly, class?
Yes, Sir.
I really hope you do.

5. Elaborate (10
minutes) Now, I want you to look around your
classroom and find any objects that can
be a light source. Then classify them into

lesson Have you all understood the task?
Yes, Sir!
Okay, then, you may start. You have 10
minutes to complete the task.
(Students’ answers may vary, but
they should answer the question like
this.)
The brightness and color of light can
have a significant impact on our lives
and the activities we do. Here are
some examples:
1. Productivity: Bright light can
help improve productivity by
increasing alertness and
reducing fatigue. In
workplaces, such as offices
and factories, the use of
bright, white light can help
employees stay focused and
energized throughout the day.
2. Safety: Bright, high-contrast
lighting can improve safety in
public spaces, such as roads,
parking lots, and pedestrian
walkways. Proper lighting can
help drivers and pedestrians
see each other more clearly,
reducing the risk of accidents.
3. Mood: The color of light can
affect our mood and emotions.
Cool colors, such as blue and
green, can promote calmness
and relaxation, while warm
colors, such as red and
orange, can create a sense of
warmth and energy. This is
why lighting designers use
color temperature to create the
desired mood and atmosphere
in various settings, such as
restaurants, hotels, and
theaters.
4. Health: Exposure to bright,
blue-rich light in the morning
can help regulate our
circadian rhythms and
improve our sleep-wake
cycles. This is especially
important for people who
work night shifts or spend a
lot of time indoors. In
addition, people with certain
medical conditions, such as
seasonal affective disorder
(SAD), may benefit from light
therapy, which involves
exposure to bright, artificial
light.
Okay, class, your time has ended. Please
pass your papers in front. In 1, 2, 3, 4,
and 5.
6. Evaluate (5 minutes)
Now, let’s see if you have learned
something today. Please get a ¼ sheet of

remediation Yes!
(Students continuously chat due to
excitement.)
Okay, class, listen up first.
Pssstt. Quiet everyone!
Are you ready to listen?
Yes, Sir!
Alright!
To do this, you have to choose a subject
or object to photograph. The subject
should remain the same throughout the
assignment, while the lighting should
vary.
Then, you are going to use three different
lighting sources: natural light, artificial
light, and colored light. You have to take
two photos for each lighting source. One
that is against the lighting source and
another one that is in the direction of the
lighting source.
To submit your work, print the photos on
a bond paper and label each photo with
the type of lighting source used. Then
write a short description of the impact of
the lighting on the mood and tone of the
image.
Understood?
Come again, sir? We weren’t able to
get that clearly.
Okay, I’ll just give you the instructions
through our group chat so that you will
be able to read and read the instructions
and to understand what you really have to
do.
Are there any questions or clarifications
about our topic today?

If there’s none, then, I think that would None, Sir.
