ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

We, the NSTP-CWTS students of Mountain Province State Polytechnic

College (MPSPC) would like to extend our greatest appreciation and sincere
gratitude to the following special people who have given their support, guidance

2
and became instruments in the success of our Community and School Service
in Brgy. Poblacion, Tadian, Mountain Province.

To the God Almighty whom we offer this successful 45 hour service for
continuously showering us strength, guidance, knowledge, and good health
during this endeavor;

Ma’am Kimberly Ruth T. Tanglib, our NSTP-CWTS instructor for her

unending support, guidance, and encouragement in good times and in bad
times. Also, for patiently rendering us her time during the service and her
unconditional considerations;

Barangay Captain Jovita D. San Jose, along with the Barangay Officials
of the abovementioned barangay, for their welcoming atmosphere, treating us
their children, ensuring our safety and health, and for their supervision during
the service. In addition, for giving us work where we could learn from and that
we are able to do;

Our families and relatives, to our dear parents who gave their full
understanding, unconditional love and support financially, physically and
emotionally. We thank you for being our motivation and inspiration towards our
study;

Lastly, we would like to thank ourselves for surpassing the challenges we

had encountered and faced during our school and community service. We were
able to complete and finish the duties serviceably safe and sound. God is good
all the time.

INTRODUCTION

A successful endeavor. This community service held in Poblacion, Tadian

has finally come to an end prosperously. We have completed it in a well-done
and thorough manner. Despite hardships, mistakes and difficulties, we truly
have fun, enjoyment, labor, learnings, and wonderful experiences throughout
this endeavor. It took us days to complete the 45-hour service, nevertheless, we
could say that we’ve made it and that our outputs were seen in the said
barangay.

3
This portfolio serves as memories full of experiences and moments in the
barangay and even in the school with community people carrying all the
learnings and lessons we have lettered along our service. This public service or
community service which young people avoids due to the fact that it includes
being soaked under the hot sun, sweating, and involves strenuous work. Little
did they know, it is a wonderful activity where lessons, experiences and
learnings are accumulated.

Despite this avoidance, the group proved that Community Service is

nothing to be scared and avoid of, when I fact, it is a way to gain new
experience and knowledge that we can learn from, a new surrounding that will
broaden our perspectives and mind regarding life and meeting new group of
people and friends that made impressions on who we are and what we can more
than what we know. It is not all about picking up pieces of trash, carrying
heavy things and loads, etc. But also knowing and meeting other people along
with how they do their work, mingling with that community that opened our
eyes on how a good community works and manage its peace, beauty and to be
successful, as a family. In addition, it taught us how to work as one, helping
each other, understanding the flaws of each other and learning from each and
every one and from our mistakes.

Consequently, we are very grateful that we become part of the Barangay

Poblacion, Tadian as a family and friends where they welcomed us with smiles
and warmness that we thought we wouldn’t be. The following documents,
narratives, and pictures presents and shows how we spent our 45-hour
Community Service, which is full of different activities from easy to difficult
works, from smiling to sweating, and from teaching to learning as well.

NARRATIVE REPORT
First Day of Community Service in Poblacion, Tadian

Sewing is the craft of fastening or attaching objects using stitches made

with a sewing needle and thread and it had always been done by hand,
manually. Meanwhile, in digging sand pit, individuals are able to work on their
muscle strength and control, especially when digging where such tools is used
to be able to dig. Sewing and digging is an activity involving strength and
patience.

On February 23, 2023, our instructor in NSTP-CWTS instructed our

class to sew net and dig pit. Participating as a group of Poblacion, Tadian, we
spend one-hour and thirty minutes in sewing baseball net and digging sand pit
at MPSPC in Poblacion, Tadian. Ms. Jenneth and Ms. Kate joined the work on
sewing the baseball net where two nets with wide and long area had been
sewed. Mr. Jake, Mr. Edmar, Mr. Monroe and Mr. Marrero joined in the sand
pit digging where they measured the sand pit that would be dug. While the
ladies started sewing, gentlemen have also started digging pit. The baseball net

5
sewed has been used during the tryouts of baseball players. The sand pit dug
has been used during the PE subject of students in MPSPC.

After the hours of working, it is indeed a successful endeavor for the

work has been completed. Despite being soaked under the hot sun, we’ve
managed to successfully complete our work with a smile on our face.

(THE GROUP WAS CONCENTRATED WITH THEIR WORK SUCH THAT NO

DUCOMENTATION WAS TAKEN)

Second day of Community Service in Poblacion, Tadian

This was the second day of our community service in accordance of our
CWTS subject’s requirements. We were instructed to conduct clean-up drive
along the roads near Tadian Central School to where the feast’s main events
were held. This activity was proposed in order to help the local community
achieve environmental cleanliness as the feast of “Ayyoweng di Lambak ed
Tadian” was being celebrated.

We, the MPSPC students taking the NSTP subject- Civic Welfare Training
Service (CWTS), were all instructed to gather at Tadian Central School’s ground
to receive the instructions of how we are going to conduct the said activity. After
the decision to where each groups’ direction of garbage pick-up, we then
proceeded to our respective assignments accordingly in an orderly manner.
Documentations were gathered as the process was being utilized.

Each student brought their own gloves, garbage bags and trash bins as
they roamed for picking up different types of garbage that were scattering along
the road. Upon picking the trashes, we put them into their respective categories
following the proper solid waste management in avoidance of having repeated
works afterwards. We collected wholesome of bottles, plastics, papers, cans and
some other type of garbage that could be possibly taken from the goods being
sold during the celebration of the feast.

6
After we secured our main agenda for that activity which is to achieve
cleanliness along the roads, we proceeded to our meet up area-TCS’s ground.
We gathered the collected trashes and put them in to a bigger garbage bag to
accommodate all the collections of different groups. We doubled check all the
bag’s contents to make sure that the trashes were properly segregated. After
that, we called our subject instructor to hear some of her announcements
regarding our next community services. We then had our picture takings for
our documentations that will be included in our portfolio requirements together
with our daily narrative reports. We conducted this activity from 4:00- 5:00 PM,
deducting one hour from our required hours of service.

On March 07, the third day of our service, we are instructed by our
NSTP-CWTS instructor to prepare the oval by putting white lines that serve as
lanes for the track and field events. We are instructed to ask for the powdered
lime from the coffee plantation of the Agro-Forestry which would be used for
setting up the lanes. Unfortunately we only acquired a half sack of the
powdered lime. We brought it from the arena 2 down to the oval so that the
powdered lime would be used on the ground running track.

Our instructor grouped and assigned us on who will set the guide ropes
and who will put the powdered limes along the guide rope. We started aligning
the guide ropes in the track so that the white lines to be made would be parallel
and well balanced. Afterwards, we started to mark the track and field portion of
the oval with the powdered lime. Due to lack of powdered limes, we have only
marked half of the track and field accumulating about an hour and 30 minutes.

Fourth day of Community Service in Poblacion, Tadian

On March 23, we are told to continue the work of other CWTS group
which is flattening the arena ground through removing the mounds of soil at
the left edge side of the oval. We borrowed working tools from the automotive
shop such as shovels, crowbar, and wheelbarrow to be able to perform the
work. Some started digging the mounds while others are collecting the soils
being removed using the wheelbarrow. Big and small holes along the track
lanes are filled using the soils removed at the left side of the ground. Working
under the hot sun makes our body sweat and the work is tiresome for we have
to use our strength to dig. Despite these obstacles, we can say that our hard
work can be seen. We managed to fill some of the holes along the track lanes
and able to reduce the mounds of soil. Overall, we have fun and enjoyed our
work for we know we have done well and work well within two hours.

Fifth day of Community Service at Poblacion, Tadian

On March 28, we asked our NSTP-CWTS instructor for her approval to

continue our field work. With the approval of our instructor, we continued on
removing the mounds of soil from the left edge side of the ground to be able to
flatten the surface of the ground. We first planned on the tasks to be done and
grouped ourselves to finish the work faster. We borrowed again the some tools
from the automotive shop to be used. While Monroe, Marrero, Edmar, and Jake
are busy digging the mounds of soil using shovel and crowbar, Kate and
Jenneth went to the right side of the ground to remove the weeds along the
track oval lanes.

We also scanned the ground to see the locations of other holes that aren’t
filled/patched yet. Using the soils removed from the left side, we filled the holes
which is a hindrance to some individuals utilizing the ground. We have
completed filling the holes along the ground and managed to reduce the
mounds of soil. We have also removed all the weeds that hinders the track lanes
from the right side of the ground. We called it a day after two hours of working
since the weather is very hot and we have to take care of ourselves.

In conclusion, although it is very difficult to do fieldworks, the important

thing is to successfully complete and finish the work safe and sound. Moreover,
we learned a lot during these activity. We learned that just like farmers,

10
working under the hot sun isn’t easy. We have to be patient and learn to love
your work in order to work productively and efficiently. Thus, it is part of being
a student and a citizen of the community and country. The same goes on our
next activity.

Sixth day of Community Service at Poblacion, Tadian

On the sixth day of our service, April 13, after our first subject in the
morning, our group went to the arena ground to continue our work left.
Altogether, we had first cleared the pieces of wood, sticks and branches of trees
that are scattered along the track lanes. Afterwards, Mr. Cabay and Mr.
Quizzagan went to borrow shovels and crawbar at the automotive room located
near the arena ground. Using the tools, we have started filling the in the hollow
part of the track lanes using the excess soil that was removed on the edge of the
ground. After two hours of working, we’ve managed to finish the work
successfully.

Seventh day of Community Service at Poblacion, Tadian

12
Field work continued in our seventh day of community service and we
would say that within 10 days of community service, our outputs will be seen.
Soon, it will show how we issuant man power service properly and with utmost
efforts. On this day, we removed the weeds on the side of the MPSPC oval in
order for the students to utilize the oval properly without the grassy ground. In
the afternoon, we gathered the cut grasses to make the ground clean and ready
for athletes and people.

During the morning, we didn’t expect that the place we are going to weed
was muddy, and full of insects, due to the fact that the day before we are going
to weed the ground suddenly rained heavily and the weather is very
unpredictable. But, still we had managed to weed the ground and finish at least
6ft wide and 10 meters long. Area portion of the side of the oval.

Then lunch time came and it is really good to refill our stomach and
regain strength and energy after hours of hard work and also dealing with the
bad weather. After we ate, we took a nap and rest on the clean part of the oval
to prepare ourselves for the afternoon works.

In the afternoon, we continued weeding and the boys cut the branches of
trees that are growing towards the running field on the oval to avoid accidents
and injuries for user of the oval and athletes. We spent 3 hours weeding the
outer portion of the oval. After weeding, we cleared the ground out of debris and
cut weeds to prepare the oval to be ready and safe for the users for weekdays
next week. We disposed the debris and cut weeds in the outmost side of the
oval where it is not already part of the playground for users because it is not
allowed to burn those in the oval so we chose to dispose it properly in one safety
place. That is how we worked in this seventh day of community service in the
MPSPC Tadian Campus

April 27, 2023, we cleaned again the oval ground during our subject period
because it seems that the school utility forgotten to clear the ground after they

14
removed some of the braches of tall trees beside the oval. The branches of trees
are just scattered in the running field in the oval and it can cause accidents for
PE students if they will use the oval during our school days and it can be
obstruction for any users of the oval.
We disposed the branches of trees again in one place where we disposed
our trash in our seventh day of community service. This is how we spend an
hour for our community service during our school hour.

16
The day is normal and it is not too hot to start weeding again the other
side of the oval, we gathered and assigned each of us where to start weeding
according to what tools we have. We started distributing our self where we
must use our tools accordingly to what its use is, some of the men started
weeding in the side part of the oval where most tall and thick grass are.
Some men have brought their bolo knife and started removing the tall
and thick grasses which sickle cannot do it. The women have their sickle and
they are the one who cleaned and cut down the small weeds on the side of the
oval ground. We experienced having complaint about the itchiness of our arms
because of our weedy surrounding and the mosquitoes and some insects that
are not stopping from flying around our face.
However, we had still managed to do our job and cut down the grasses in
the afternoon and we had cleared again the oval out of scattered cut down
weeds. We disposed the cut down weeds in a safe place to make the area we
cleared cleaned and neat.

Tenth day of Community Service at Poblacion, Tadian

On this day, our NSTP instructor Ma'am Kimberly told us to set-up the
badminton court at the IPED Bldg. ground floor which is to be used for the PE
subject. She handed us the tools to be used including measuring tape, scissor,
and white tape. We first removed the old tape acting as the line of the court
because it’s already overused and worn out and needs to be replaced. We
proceeded in measuring the length and width of the ground floor so that we can
maximize the space for setting up two badminton courts. Afterwards, we then
measured the badminton court to be set up and marking it for the next step.
The challenging part is laying the tape on the designated marked
measurements because it needed to be straight and well-balanced as not to

18
embarrass our self being an engineering students. We encounter difficulties on
laying the white tape because we need to be careful not to rip the tape. Luckily,
we finished laying out three badminton court in 4 hours. In the activity we have
done, we learned on how to layout with appropriate measurements, to maximize
the space and findings ways to properly execute some things do the job
efficiently and well-done.

Eleventh day of Community Service at Poblacion, Tadian

May 6, 2023. The request letter we’ve passed to the barangay concerning
about the possible work assignments they are to hand us was then took into
consideration and called us for an activity, barangay clean-up drive. Together
with one of the Poblacion group, we are instructed to pick up trashes along the
different areas of the barangay starting from the local market, headed to Egan,
Ol-is, Sagang up to the Colleges’ location. The barangay official gladly gave us
warm greetings that settled up the mood for this day’s activity. We also logged
in our community services’ time-in at the logbook of their office.

19
Each of us brought our respective materials upon the conduct of the said
activity. Following the proper ways of solid waste management, we collected and
gathered the trashes we were able to pick as we tried to roam around the
different road areas and path ways. We collected, glass and plastic bottles,
cans, plastics, cartons, papers, and some other type of solid wastes possibly
came from varieties of waste sources.

After the trashes’ gathering procedures, we headed to the school campus

and asked the respective officer of what are we going to do with those gathered
trashes. We were then instructed to properly segregate the collected trashes. We
put the bottles and cans to their areas of specification for recycling processes,
and burn the biodegradable types at the compost pit designated for waste
burnings. After that, we made it sure that there were no left scattered areas and
the works performed were neatly left. The clean-up drive activity was conducted
from the morning to the afternoon, completing an eight-hour barangay
community service that greatly concerns the environment. It is a great idea to
start work early and finish it accordingly following the set guidelines and
procedures towards the attainment of the target goal accomplishments.

biodegradable materials were burned accordingly.

Twelfth day of Community Service at Poblacion, Tadian

May 13, 2023, the last day of our community service. Due to the
announcement which states that there will be a program that will be held
within the school, we have spent half of the day joining and attending the
program. This program has a theme, “Information and Educational Campaign
on Recruitment of CTGs” which was organized by our beloved uniformed
personnel. All students from the NSTP program including LTS, CWTS, and
ROTC was mandated to attend the aforementioned program which our group
willingly participated.

21
During the program, we have heard a lot of information, learnings,
insights and lessons from the speakers regarding the topic. The reason why
NTF-ELCAC was formed, the reason why youth are the most target of CTGs,
how are youth being recruit, how to avoid being recruit, importance of choosing
the right path, etc. are some of the information and learnings we’ve
accumulated. “EDUKASYON HINDI REBOLUSYON, MAG ARAL HINDI MAG-
ARMAS”

In the afternoon, we’ve spent our remaining hours from the 45-hour
community service in making two pairs of kadang-kadang. Kadang- kadang is a
traditional Filipino game which is played during laro ng lahi or as a recreational
activities. It is played using bamboo stilt, in another variant, coconut shells are
used as slippers where strings are tied to it to move forward.

Due to the fact that there isn’t much bamboo, we’ve decided to use
durable tree branches that are available within the community. After collecting
tree branches, the boys started cleaning the branches and removing the
hazardous part of it. Next, we shaped the branches to look like a bamboo stilt
with the top and bottom flattened. After making the two pairs of stilt, we
constructed two pairs of footrest where feet will step on. Lastly, we connected
the footrest to the wood stilt using nails. The process of making this kadang-
kadang isn’t easy yet we have managed to finish it through teamwork. It is also
a learning to everyone constructing an indigenous tool.

(TAKING PICTURES IS NOT ALLOWED DURING THE PROGRAM)

Information and Educational Campaign on Recruitment of CTGs with NTF-

ELCAC
(Group Reflection)
“Lahat tayo ay mga pag-asa ng bayan.” We are all entitled of having great
roles in nation building on helping our country develop and move towards
progress. We, the youth of our country, Philippines, determine the future of our
nation as we are expected to be responsible upon bringing social reform within
our country. This is supported by the NSTP Law with the primary objective of
promoting the role of the youth in nation-building. It aims to encourage the
youth to become civic and/or military leaders and volunteers whom could be
called upon by the nation in cases their services are needed and emergency. As
youth, we acquire different skills and abilities such as being knowledge in terms
of literary writings, public speaking, use of newly-introduced technology devices

22
, and the understanding and adaptation of today’s era. These mentioned
abilities and skills have the capacity of placing our nation into advantage and
disadvantage. This depends on how the Filipino youths utilize their capabilities
as they decide on what would be the path they’re going to choose. In every
decision we are to make, one must embody the phrase left by our national hero,
Dr. Jose Rizal, which is, “Youth are the Hope of the Nation”.

The National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-
ELCAC) is a task force organized by our government to respond and raise
awareness to the ongoing communist rebellion in our country. This aim is
related with the conducted lecture held in our school, MPSPC Tadian Campus
that mainly focus on information and education campaign on recruitment of
CTGs with NTF-ELCAC. Through the aid of the activity, we students are given
the chance to speak what is in our minds regarding the different issues that
concerns the recruitment of terrorist groups. Given that there are presentations
of information, evidences, and testimonies, we come up on a question on why is
there a rebellion criticizing the government instead of helping one another
towards a united goal. The communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and its
armed wing, the New People’s Army (NPA), seeks to overthrow the Philippine
Government and establish a communist state, and expel US influence from the
Philippines. The CPP-NPA regards three things as central to waging revolution
that includes armed struggle, agrarian revolution, and the building of the mass-
bases in the countryside. We must be wise enough as we are being educated to
determine what is good and what is bad and weigh its possible circumstantial
consequences. At this early stage of reason, we must already have a settled
perspective which we are to stand as we carry our spirits of nationalism, not
easily being swayed with what others are trying to implant in our minds. The
CPP-NPA-NDF tries of having an installation of rebellious desire to the minds of
the Filipino citizens especially those youth group. Believing that youth are
necessary force of their terrorist group, trying to convince them in different
approaches such as targeting them through study and social groups.

Youth are the main target of the recruitment for they are easier targets
and are highly vulnerable to false ideologies of these rebellious groups and
tends to join the group. We, who belong to the current generation must break
and avoid this kind of ideologies. We must prove that upon reaching o0ur goals
and dreams, we are able to learn and be matured enough from the trainings
and knowledges we garnered since our nursery school. Yes, we are still far yet
to our dreams and goals in life but remember that we have walk to far from
where we began. We must not let those terrorist groups have control of our lives
and destroy our future. Because once they are able to control us, it results in
giving them the chance and power to manipulate the government of our
country. We are expected to follow the footsteps of our parents and will soon

23
become future leaders. Their objective is to abolish our current government
ruling and will make our country a communist. Our decision plays a great role
on the future awaiting us. Know that all the things that is happening today will
have an impacts on the future either positive or negative. As they say,
“Prevention is better than Cure”, it is better not to make wrong decisions at an
early times in order to avoid taking the fall at the end. As citizens, one must be
responsible enough of the consequences brought by his/her actions. In case we
encounter people who recruits us to join them in rebellion, we must not let our
minds be manipulated by their false statements. We must embody nationalism
and love our own country as we love ourselves. It means do and decide things
which will help develop, improve and make our homeland best.

REFLECTION & LEARNINGS

“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on Earth”.

Community service isn’t just words, but an opportunity in life to

contribute one’s time to helping others and making a difference in society and
community specifically; and thus a better place to live for all. Community
service allows an individual to step outside of their own community and see the
world through different eyes. Though outreach work may be initially motivated
by a personal desire to meet requirements of a specific need, the act of
performing the work changes the person. Giving your time in service to other
can be a tool to discover and experience different cultures and thus allows you
the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of other people.

Being part of the Community Service held at Poblacion, Tadian is a very

big opportunity to have such amazing experiences, knowledge and learnings.
These experiences and learnings has shed light on the principles of doing good,
community in need, and even ourselves. It’s important to remember that each
person has their own unique narrative, thus it’s just as important to respect,
appreciate, and take time to understand each other. Acknowledging everyone’s
circumstances and makes for a more complete and fulfilling community service
experience. We realize that simple changes can have a big impact. For instance,
pulling weeds, cleaning the streets and community in general, stone terracing,

24
etc. contributes to the overall beautification of the community. Smile is
universal and is part of universal language. A simple smile can permeate
language, cultural, economic, or other barriers and can relay the message that
we really care. This community service brought a deep appreciation of all that
we have in life and helping those in need is a firm reminder of what really
matter – our family, friends and health. Those simple things, difficult works,
and precious moments that brought us joy and happiness.

As part of the service, we never stop learning as well as in the future.

Developing new skills, discovering new passions, gaining new insights about
ourselves and the community around us – this service covers it all. This service
can mean learning about different communities, organizations, and fields, as
well as learning more about ourselves, from friends, classmates, teachers, and
other people. It is an experience that will stay within our hearts and minds
forever. The fulfillment that comes with helping another human being, the
satisfaction from knowing that we’ve made a great differences, and the good fun
factor are just a few reasons once is never enough. We knew we’ve done our
very best and hoping that there is still next time to join this amazing activity.

CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATION

NSTP-CWTS taught us to be a responsible citizen of our country and to

our environment. On the process we realized many things that can change how
we view our world we live in and our fellow people. It taught us our ultimate
duty which is preserving the way our world used to be.

Completing our portfolio made us aware that we are also creating

memories of how our group contributed to the well-being of the society which is
the main objective of NSTP-CWTS. We are unaware that we already finished our
required hours to finish our community service.

Poblacion, Tadian opened doors for us to learn many things that we will
treasure forever. It served as a ground for us to know what our environment
needs and what we can do to make it a better place for us to live in. We are
grateful that we had the opportunity to contribute to the betterment of
Poblacion, Tadian.

We hope that we met the expectations of Poblacion, Tadian and MPSPC-

Tadian campus. We sincerely hope that Poblacion, Tadian will continue to grow
according to the vision and mission of the barangay.

25
Lastly, we do believe that through this requirement of NSTP-CWTS,
everybody involved has gained something and appreciated everything that was
done and will always be remembered. We all deserve a round of applause for
contributing for the betterment of our society.

For the future students that would take NSTP-CWTS subject, we

Background of the Study

Nowadays, people tend to forget the ideal meaning and significance of

work. Perseverance of work helps each individual to reach their goals leading
them to the achievement of fruitful abundance that helps them to live their life
to the fullest. Moving forward to each stage of life, questions keep on arousing
such as, why must we perform work, does this impact our life or otherwise?
How can happiness be instilled within ourselves while we are on the move of
work?

As students on the tertiary level, it is a requirement for us to take one

NSTP subject from which, one of it is the Civic Welfare Training Service. This
concerns about partaking in varieties of work types that leads to the
development of our country through voluntary services that starts from local
communities. One could clearly observe that in today’s times, young
generations performs services or works that was tasked for them to accomplish
without the realization of why must they do it. For them, it is just a matter of
complying. In every activity that must be done, knowing the importance of it
matters, it can be the guidance on how to work at the same time finding
enjoyment from it, “serving with joy”.

Conducting barangay community services is not only about picking up

trashes, carrying heavy things, removing weeds, cleaning drainages and so on.
Instead, it is about giving back to one’s community by contributing time,
resources, and skills to help in making the community a better place.

Through the activity requirements of the students under this subject,

these helps them to gain their own confidence to perform as far as they can do
with their unique abilities and capabilities. It gives them the eagerness to
discover what’s beyond their knowledge and extend their learnings into
practicality. The community services mainly focus on the promotion of an eco-
friendly environment. Through the different activities from which students
interact with their environment in the acts of cleaning and beautifying, it helps
them to have the desire to be advocates on the promotion of a cleaner and
better environment. Knowing the objectives and significance of what they do will
help them work effectively and find enjoyment on the process of doing so.
