B. Developmental Lesson
1. Introduction 1. Motivation
(Panimula) ( The teacher prepares a video clip)
* The teacher asks; What are the things that you saw on the video?
Who created those things? Do we have to take good care for these, why?

2. Presentation
( the teacher prepares a video clip about Dugong)
* the teacher set some standards to be followed while watching a video

Dugongs
1. Dugongs are warm-blooded sea animals. They are commonly known as “sea
cows” because of their fondness for grazing on underwater sea grass. They are
the only aquatic herbivorous mammals because they feed on plants exclusively.
2. What makes it more interesting is that dugongs are more closely related to
elephants than to other marine mammals like whales, dolphins, or seals.
3. Dugongs swim using their whale-like tail and use their front flippers for
balance and turning. They are often called as gentle giants as they move slow
yet graceful. Another trait that makes them different from dolphins and whales is
their ability to hold their breath for more than fifteen minutes.
4. These enormous vegetarians have a trunk-like flexible upper lip, thick skin
covered with bristles, and nails on their forelimbs and replaceable teeth. They
can weigh approximately 400 kilograms and grow up to three meters long. They
can reach the age of 70.
5. Dugongs can be found in the warm waters of the Indian and Pacific oceans.
Sadly, they are in danger in many parts of the world. Populations that once
flourished around India, Africa and other tropical islands in the Indian Ocean are
now endangered due to degradation or loss of habitat---the sea grass.
6Large populations of dugongs still inhabits in the coastal of Australia since they
are protected by the law.

2. Development 3. Discussions
(Pagpapaunlad) ( the teacher let the learners to answer the questions based on the
selection)
Questions:
1. What is the passage about? Why are they called as gentle giants?
2. How are dugongs classified as herbivorous? Support your answer.
3. Why are dugongs closely relative to elephants than other marine mammals
like dolphins, whales and seals? What statements in the passage support your
answer?
4. What do you think are the reasons why dugongs become endangered?
5. What can we do to prevent the extinction of these animals?
An opinion refers to a personal belief. It is a statement of what a person or an author
thinks or believes. It also relates to how someone feels about something. Others may
agree or disagree with your opinion; however, you must back it up with evidence and
other supporting details to persuade your target audience and/or listeners.

Evidence is anything that tends to prove or disprove something. It is mostly thought of

as proof to come to a belief, conclusion, or judgment about a topic. This may include
examples, images, personal experiences, diagrams, charts and graphs, surveys,
experiments, and other secondary sources of information. Providing evidence to support
opinions requires the audience to use their previous knowledge and think more deeply
about it.

A WHAT-WHY-HOW Strategy can also be used to help you remember to

include appropriate evidence. Look at the chart below.

A. Susan has been walking back and forth outside the operating room since
10:00 o’clock last night. She left for a while to get coffee from the vending
machine and continued walking back and forth again, with her coffee and her
cellphone in her hands. By 2:00 in the morning, she received a call. After
receiving the call, she started texting Mr. Edgardo, informing him that she could
not go to work today until
the next day.
1. Why do you think Susan would not go to work?
2. List evidence to support your answer.
B. Daniel called his best friend Fredrich on Friday afternoon and invited him to
come to his house after dinner to watch their favorite movie. It had been a long
and tiring day and Fredrich looked forward to doing something since he already
finished answering his modules. After dinner, he hopped on his bicycle and
pedaled over to Daniel’s house. The house was dark, and when he rang the
bell, there was no answer. Fredrich turned to hop on his bike and rode home.
1. What had Fredrich realized?
2. List evidence to support your answer.
4. Fixing Skills
Directions: Read the passage carefully. Answer the questions in your notebook.

Stepping Up for What Is Just

(based on real events)

Matthew Alganes

1. One evening in December 1955, Rosa Parks rode on a bus home after a long day’s work. During that
time, black Americans were separated from white Americans the bus. The front part of the bus was the
section for white Americans; the back part was the section for black Americans. When the front part of the
bus became full, black people had to give up their seats to white people. Rosa sat in the black section of the
bus.

2. Shortly, the white section was filled. The bus driver asked Rosa to give up her seat to a white person, but
she refused. She was tired of the treatment that she and other black Americans received everyday.

3. Rosa and the bus driver had an argument. Eventually, the driver had Rosa arrested by the police and sent
her to jail.

4. This made the black citizens of Montgomery angry so they decided to boycott the buses by not riding on
them. Instead, they organized carpools or walked when going to work. The boycott which was done hoping
that city officials would be forced to change the unfair segregation laws lasted for 381 days. Although the
bus companies were losing a lot of money, the city officials did not give in to the demands of the black
citizens.

5. Rosa’s refusal to follow an unjust law was not disregarded though. Thirteen months after the boycott
started, the U.S. Supreme Court declared that the segregation in public transportation was unconstitutional.
In 1964, the U.S. Congress passed a law known as the “Civil Rights Act of 1964” that put an end to racial
discrimination in the country.

6. The bravery shown by Rosa Park that night proved to be a transformative move for the American people.

Questions:

1. How did Rosa Park show her bravery? Fill in the graphic organizer below to show your answer. Support
it by providing evidence.
