7.0 WORK PROCEDURE

7.1 FOUNDATION REPAIRING

7.1.1 Mark the area of the foundation to cut the concrete top cover along the direction of the
rebar.
7.1.2 Start cutting the marked area of the foundation using a disc grinder.
7.1.3 After the cutting of the concrete top along the line of rebar to be replaced, chip off the cut
area using hand chisel.
7.1.4 After exposing the affected rebar an extra straight rebar will be spliced over the cut area.
7.1.5 When splicing of extra rebar is done clean the cut/chipped area for covering.
7.1.6 The pockets/cavities shall be air blown clean to remove all loose particles and debris that may
have accumulated inside.
7.1.7 Repair the coating of the rebar that may be damage.
7.1.8 Remove the cut rebar and expose sufficient length on both sides to be over lapped.
7.1.9 Damped the prepared surface for ample bonding.
7.1.10 Verify that opening to air is sufficient to avoid air lock while pouring the mix.
7.1.11 Apply SIKA bonding agent on the surface to be treated right before mixing the mortar to allow
sufficient time for the bonding agent to adhere on the surface.
7.1.12 Ensure that ambient temperature is not more than 30ºC.

7.2 MIXING THE GROUT / MORTAR MIX

7.2.1 Manufacturer concurred the mortar can be mixed in partial quantity as much is required on
the site using hand-tools. Actual mixing shall be in partial batches of half-bag quantities.
Required ratio of water on the mix shall be ensured using Liter pitcher to ensure water
content in the mixture is in accordance to manufacturer recommendation. For this instance,
1.75 liters of water will be required for the half bag mixture of mortar.
7.2.2 Empty half bag quantity (20kg) of the mortar and cement part of the supplied dry mix into the
prepared mixing container. Cover/seal the bag containing the remaining part of the dry mix to
avoid exposing to humid air or damp air.
7.2.3 Mix thoroughly the dry materials before introducing water.
7.2.4 Once the dry mortar and cement mixture is amply mixed, add 1.5 liters of clean water and mix
thoroughly for 3 minutes using the mason spade until the desired consistency is uniformly
attained.
7.2.5 Add the remaining 0.25 liters and continuously mix for another 2 minutes. Settle the mixture
for 1-2 minutes on the mixing container/bucket to allow entrapped air content to escape from
the mixture.
7.2.6 Pour or apply the mixture on the cavity/holes to be filled and ensure all voids are filled
thoroughly. Allow the mixture to fill the volume matching the surface level of the structure to
be repaired.
7.2.7 Finish the exposed surface using hand trowel/float to match adjoining portion of the
structure. Do not add water during finishing of the surface.

7.3 METHOD OF CURING

7.3.1 After the mixture reached initial setting, cover the surface of the repaired portion with wet
hessian cloth. Do not cover the surface with polyethylene sheet since grout will continuously
produce heat during hydration which may be entrapped if covered by plastic sheet.
7.3.2 Cover plastic sheet over the wet hessian cloth if deemed required retaining water and
maintaining a moist condition.
7.3.3 The grout is designed to reach compressive strength above the main structure concrete
value on its first day and therefore 2-days curing from the time of pouring should be ample.
7.3.4 Clean off the surface on the third day and prepare the surface for waterproof coating, where
required.

7.4 PAITING REPAIR

7.4.1 After the curing scrub the surface using stone cup/sand papers.
7.4.2 Clean the surface using brush to remove dirt and dust.
7.4.3 When cleaning and preparation is done apply the waterproof coating where the area that
been cut and chipped off.
