PACEATAN ‘24
SPECIAL EVENTS GENERAL GUIDELINES

1. Participants must be bona fide students of MSU-IIT Civil Engineering and are
officially enrolled for the S.Y. 2023-2024.

2. Each team must submit a partial list of the participants for each event through
the Special Events Committee on or before February 10, 2024, at 8:00 PM. The
final list of the participants must be submitted before February 16, 2024, at 8:00
PM.
Note: The list will be submitted through Google Sheets provided by the Special
Events Committee.

3. Only those students whose names appear on the list submitted are allowed to
participate in the competition. Changing of participants is not allowed after
February 16, 2024.

4. The sequence of performance shall be determined through the drawing of lots


during the First Reading of the Guidelines on February 5, 2024.

5. The participating team must be at the venue thirty (30) minutes before the call
time. If failure to arrive at the said venue, a deduction of one (1) point, per judge,
form the total score.

6. Upon arrival, participants must immediately report to the assigned student


coordinator/facilitator for briefing and instructions and checking of attendance.
Participants will no longer be allowed to leave the venue unless permitted by the
Special Events Committee.

7. Any participant(s) displaying misdemeanor, obscenity, reckless behavior, and the


like will be sanctioned as necessary by the Special Events Committee.

8. If the participant(s) will be called to perform but have not yet arrived at the
performing area they will still be allowed to perform but they will be deducted one
(1) point per judge.

Note: Late performers will automatically be the last performer(s) of every event.

9. There will be an official timer to record the time of entrance, and performance up
to the moment the last performer in a team leaves the stage which will be the cue
that the performance has ended.

10.In case of technical problems, the performers shall not be subject to the
deduction of points. In the event of music and/or technical error or any other
unexpected event, the Special Events Committee reserves the right to interrupt the
performance and allow the performers to start again.

11. The Special Events Committee Chairperson reserves the right to impose
additional regulations when the need arises.

12.Any violation of the aforementioned guidelines would mean a two (2) points
deduction per judge.

13. Deduction of points shall be made by the Chairman of the Board of Tabulators, in
consultation with the Chairman of the Board of Judges with the knowledge and
approval of the Grievance Committee.

14. The decision of the Board of Judges, once signed by the Board of Tabulators, is
final and irrevocable.

SPECIAL EVENTS GUIDELINES

A. TRAILER SPOOF

1. Each team shall recreate a chosen movie or series that has appeared in either
Philippine or International Cinemas.

2. No two teams shall recreate the same movie/series. Selection would be on a


“first-come, first-served” basis.

3. The submissions of their chosen movie/series will start on February 10, 2024,
after the second reading of guidelines until February 16, 2024. Respective entry
should be submitted to the Event head, Alyanna Faith Tampus.

4. The storyline of the spoof can be changed as long as it does not deviate from
the original thought.

5. Re-using previously made spoofs is not allowed.

6. Using foul, offensive and vulgar terms and/or statements is strictly prohibited.

7. The video should be in mp4 format and should be compatible with VLC Player
version 3.0.0

8. The deadline for Trailer Spoof video submission will be on February 26, 2024,
at 5:00 pm. A Google Drive link with a file per team will be provided and locked
after the upload. File name format: Emotion - Title of Movie/Series.

9. The entries will undergo online judging on February 27, 2024.

10. Spoofs will be presented on March 2, 2024, at the MSU-IIT Gymnasium


during the Night of Songs and Dances.

11. A two (2) point deductions should be incurred for every violation.

12. The Judges’ decisions are final and irrevocable.

B. AMAZING RACE

1. Only ten (10) members are allowed to participate for each team but are
required to submit additional two (2) members to serve as substitutes.

2. The contest will be held on March 3, 2024, at 10:00 AM at the MSU-IIT


vicinity. The Assembly Area and Registration will be in the COE Lobby, at 9:30
AM.

3. Each team will follow the shirt color-coding system based on their designated
color; CE1 - Orange (Anxiety), CE2 - Green (Disgust), CE3 - Red (Anger), CE4 -
Purple (Fear), CET1&2 - Black (Ennui), CET3&4 - Pink (Envy).

4. One (1) Chaperone is allowed to go with your team during the race. Chaperone
must wear a white shirt.

5. The contest will be composed of six (6) stations and one (1) moving station.

6. The teams will be given a map to locate all six (6) stations.

7. In each station, before starting the challenge, the team must do a headcount
loudly to ensure the team is complete.

6. After each station’s challenge, the team will be given a flaglet. Flaglets must be
collected and shown to the Event Head, Graziella Mae Chu when you finish the
game.

7. A demerit system will be imposed which will be a 15-second deduction to your


overall time. Facilitators have the power to give demerits to a team if:

a. They did not do a headcount after arriving at a station.


b. They did not follow the instructions given by the facilitators.
c. They disrespected facilitator/s.
d. They disrespected other teams.

8. The team with the overall shortest time will be the winner of the Amazing Race
competition.

C. ICON

1. The Icon competition shall be contested during the Opening Event on March 2,
2024.

2. Participants should be at the venue fifteen (15) minutes before the Opening
Event starts and must report to the Event Head, Maria Johanna Bazar for
attendance.

3. Each team should send only one (1) participant to represent them in the
competition.

4. The participant should portray their designated Inside Out Character, in which
the CE1 was given Anxiety, CE2 - Disgust, CE3 - Anger, CE4 - Fear, CET1&2 -
Ennui, CET3&4 - Envy.

5. The performance should not be vulgar or obscene. Accidental wardrobe


malfunction is tolerable.

6. The icon's performance should be at most three (3) minutes.

7. Each team must provide their own background music. The deadline will be on
February 28, 2024, at 5:00 PM. A Google Drive link with a file per team will be
provided and locked after the upload. File name format: ICON BG MUSIC -
Emotion.

8. A voice over can be done during the icon’s performance. If decided, the
respective team must make their own script and shall provide someone to do
the voice over.

7. As per the icon's costume, there is no limit to what the Icon can wear BUT any
sharp, flammable, and combustible materials are prohibited. Paint and glitter
are both acceptable. The facilitators will check if the props are safe to use
before the show.

8. No other person aside from the icon should be in any way a part of the
performance. Henceforth, there shall be no physical contact or throwing of
props to the audience and/or judges.

9. A two (2) point deduction shall be incurred for every violation of the
above-mentioned guidelines.

LARO NG LAHI
General Guidelines

1. The Laro ng Lahi shall be contested during the second day of PaCEATan on
March 3, 2024, at 1:00 PM.

2. Laro ng Lahi is all about friendly competition. Encourage sportsmanship, fair


play, and respect for opponents.

3. Respective teams shall provide the required number of participants in each


game.
a. Repeating participants from different games is not prohibited but is
otherwise highly discouraged to ensure maximum participation from the
students.
b. Failure to comply with the required number of participants will be forfeited
from playing the game.
c. Every team is required to submit additional two (2) participants each game
to serve as substitutes.

4. The participants shall arrive at the venue at the designated time.


a. In case a team lacks a participant 2 minutes after the moderator
announces to form a team for a specific game, they will be forfeited from
playing the game.

5. A total of three (3) warnings per team shall be given by the Event Head, Sandrew
Rogel Eya, to the participants in case any rules stated under the different games
are violated.

6. Strictly, pushing or any harmful acts that could potentially compromise the
participants (of the same or the competing team) of the playing teams is
prohibited.
a. Any violation of this rule, as confirmed by the event head, will result in
disqualification.

A. TUG OF WAR

Number of Participants in each team: 8 (4 men, 4 women)

Objective
The game's objective is to pull the opposing team's marker across the centerline of the
field towards your side. The team that successfully pulls the marker across the center
line wins the round.

“Single Elimination Game” will be implemented.

● Number of Rounds: The game consists of 3 rounds (since there are 2 matches
in the first round, 2 in the second round, and 1 in the final round).

● Division of Teams: Randomly pair up the teams for each match based on a spin
the wheel which will be done on the day of the games in front of all the
participating teams.

Round 1: Quarterfinals
Match 1: Team A vs Team B
Match 2: Team C vs Team D

Round 2: Semifinals
Match 3: Winner of Match 1 vs Team E
Match 4: Winner of Match 2 vs Team F

Round 3: Finals

Mechanics:

1. The game begins with both teams lined up behind their respective starting
lines.

2. When the facilitator/s gives the signal, both teams start pulling on the marker,
attempting to drag it across the center line to their side.

3. The team that manages to pull the marker across the center line wins the
round.

4. The marker must cross the center line completely for a round to be considered
won.

5. Participants must remain within the designated boundary lines during the
match.

6. Teams can strategize on how to distribute their strength and use coordinated
efforts to overcome their opponents.

Rules:

1. Proper footwear must be worn to prevent slipping.

2. Participants must have a firm grip on the marker or rope, ensuring they do not
wrap it around any part of their body.

3. Participants must remain within the designated boundary lines during the
match.

4. Each round has a predetermined time limit (2 minutes).

5. If neither team pulls the marker across the center line within the time limit, the
round can end in a draw or go into overtime.

6. Participants are allowed to use any means to better their grip on the rope.
(usage of gloves or chalk is allowed and recommended but wrapping it around
any part of the body is not allowed as stated in rule number 2)

7. Any participant who experiences discomfort, pain, or injury during the game
should immediately let go of the marker or rope and signal for assistance.

B. SACK RACE

Number of Participants in each team: 10

Mechanics:

1. All 6 teams with their respective participants must fall in line.

2. The race begins with a clear starting signal (a call from the event host).

3. Only one sack will be provided for each team

4. One participant from each team will run the race individually, hopping inside the
sack.

5. The first participant in each team must stand inside the sack with both feet
completely inside before the race begins.

6. The participant must hold the top of the sack with their hands to prevent tripping
or falling.

7. The participant must hop inside the sack from the starting line to the turning
point and then back to the starting line without stepping outside the sack or
touching the ground with their feet.

8. After each participant finishes, they shall go at the back, behind the last person
in line.

9. If a participant loses balance and falls, they can get up, reposition themselves
in the sack, and continue hopping.

10. The first team to successfully complete all their participants' hops must shout
their team yell, the first one to do so will be recognized as the winner.

C. PATINTERO

Number of Participants in each team: 5 (3 men, 2 females)

Mechanics:

1. The game is played by two teams; passers, and guards.

2. Passers position themselves at a starting line.

3. Guards must be positioned on the lines. They cannot step inside the squares.

4. Guards can tag a passer inside the square if s/he is within reach.

5. Passers are given a 6-minute time to earn points. They must try to cross the
line.

6. Once a player crosses the lines without getting caught, her/his group gets a
point. Every line consists of one (1) point.

7. If a passer is caught or touched by the guards, s/he will be eliminated.

8. The guards can’t tag from behind. They can only tag them again when they’re
on their way back.

9. Once all Passers are eliminated, the groups will exchange places.

10. A team shall lose a game by default if fails to report within fifteen (15) minutes
of waiting time.

Penalties:

1. Guards have to stay in their lane and both feet have to be on the line for the tag
to be valid.

ENGINEERING CHALLENGES

A. PAPER TOWER

1. The number of participants in each team consists of five (5) members.

2. The contest will be held on February 24, 2024—at exactly 10:00 A.M. at the
COE 2nd floor lobby. Registration will be at exactly 9:30 AM.

3. Mechanics of the competition:

a. Materials: Materials will be announced at the start of the event. But, the
participants must provide their own scissors, one pair of scissors per
team. No additional materials are allowed.

b. All specific details will be announced during the competition proper.

c. Timeframe: A set amount of time is allotted for tower construction. The

team must construct a tower out of paper within two (2) hours, on the

spot, at the designated venue and date.

d. Testing: After the construction phase, each paper tower will be tested
based on the following guidelines:

Economic and CE Application 10%
(Least Amount of material used and integration of CE)
Minimum Dimensions 10%

d. Moderator: The event head, Kristine Anne Saguin, will facilitate the
competition. One of the department faculty will determine the winners
based on the given guidelines.

4. Once the tower has been prepared for testing, nobody is allowed to neither
move or alter any part. Only one (1) team member shall be allowed to assist the
judges during the testing.

B. EGG DROP

1. The number of participants in each team consists of three (3) members.The


contest will be held on February 24—exactly 10:00 A.M. outside the CE
Department.

2. Mechanics of the competition:

a. Materials:

i. Materials will be provided by ACES at the contest proper. All specific


details will be announced during the competition proper.

ii. Participants must bring their scissors (maximum of 2) for the


competition. Each participant is allowed to bring only one (1) large
(boiled) egg for trial testing. Additional materials not listed or
mentioned above are not allowed.

b. Timeframe: A set amount of time is allotted for brainstorming and


constructing the contraption. Teams must construct their contraption and
conduct trial tests within two (2) hours on the spot at the designated venue
and date.

c. Testing: After the construction phase, each constructed design will be


tested. The boiled egg should remain intact after the drop test. No cracks
are allowed.

d. Design:

i. The contraption must be designed so that participants can insert and


remove the egg without breaking it, and the egg remains visible.
During testing, participants are allowed to tape their egg onto the
contraption, but it should be removable without damaging the egg,
covering it, or destroying the contraption.

ii. The contraption must be designed with the egg not already in place.

iii. Design must use only the materials provided by the facilitators.

iv. Failure to follow design requirements will be automatically


disqualified.

e. Moderator: The event head, Kristine Anne Saguin, will facilitate the
competition and determine the winners based on the given guidelines.

3. Once the constructed design has been prepared for testing, nobody is allowed to
neither move nor alter any part. Only one (1) team member shall be allowed to
assist the judges during the testing.

4. Judging of the contraption's design will be points-based, with the following


categories:

a. The amount of materials used:

i. The team with the least amount of materials used will receive 6
points, followed by the team with the second least amount receiving 5
points, and so on, up to the team with the most materials used
receiving 1 point.

ii. To compute the materials used, deduct the quantity of unused


materials from the initial quantity given by the facilitators.

b. Height that the egg survived:

i. Points will be added for each height the egg survives and if the egg
cracks at a specific height, points will not be added for that height, and
testing will end.

3 meters height (9 points)

2nd floor of the COE Building (12 points)

3rd floor of the COE Building (15 points)

4th floor of the COE Building (18 points)

5. All points from each category will be added, and the team with the highest points
will be declared the champion.
