BACKGROUND/BRIEF CONTEXT/PERSPECTIVE OF THE ACTIVITY

In Gabi National High School, we’ve observed a concerning trend among students
regarding reading comprehension skills. Despite efforts to improve literacy levels, many
students still struggle to comprehend texts effectively. In the results of the Programme
for International Student Assessment (2018) revealed the results among 15 years old
students in the Philippines scored lower among 79 participating countries and
economies, the Philippines scored the lowest in reading comprehension for both boys
and girls.
The Visual Stories Reading (VSR) Program offers a promising solution to the reading
comprehension challenge among senior high school students at Gabi National High
School. Through integrating educational stories with subtitles and interactive elements,
the program aims to engage students in reading and improve their comprehension
skills. We are dedicated to implementing this program as part of our broader initiative to
promote literacy and lifelong learning within our institution.

The VSR Program will involve structured reading sessions where senior high school
students at Gabi National High School will engage with educational stories
accompanied by subtitles. Following each story, students will answer questions to
assess their comprehension levels. Our partners in this project will include teachers and
school administrators.

RISK MANAGEMENT PLAN

The following are the foreseen risks or problems that can happen during project
implementation followed by the measures that would mitigate adverse effects as
follows;

1. Uninteresting content

Some students may lose interest in the educational stories if they find the content
unappealing or irrelevant leading to disengagement. Conduct thorough research to
select stories that align with the interests and educational needs of the target audience.
Incorporate interactive elements such as visual aids, animations, or real-life examples to
make the content more engaging. Regularly gather feedback from students and adjust
the content accordingly to maintain interest levels.

2. Attendance

Low attendance rates could hinder the effectiveness of the program and impact student
participation and learning outcomes. Implement strategies to emphasize the importance
of attendance, such as sending out reminders to students, highlighting the benefits of
participation.

3. Low Attention span

Students may struggle to maintain focus and attention during the program, leading to
reduced comprehension and retention of the material. Utilize multimedia elements such
as visuals, audio, and subtitles to enhance engagement and accommodate different
learning styles. Break down the content into shorter segments and intersperse with
interactive activities to maintain focus and attention throughout the program.
