We have already learned in our previous
lessons all about fact and
opinion. A fact generally refers to
something that is true and can be verified
as such. That is, a fact is something that
can be proven to be true. An opinion
refers to a personal belief. It relates to
how someone feels about something.
Others may agree or disagree with an
opinion, but they cannot prove or
disprove it. This is what defines it as
opinion.
We have already mentioned that a fact is
a statement which refers to something
that is true and or could possibly be
proven true. An important characteristic
of a "fact" is that it can be proven to be
true.
How to provide evidence to support a
fact?

Nowadays, fake news spread fast, and
some people tend to instantly believe
what they see, hear, or read from the
social media. Therefore, it is important
that we become inquisitive about the
reliability of the details of the
text and its source. Finding evidence to
support opinions and information is
useful both for the source and its
audience.
Opinions that are spoken or written that
are not supported by facts hold very little
value to the audience. In giving opinions,
let’s make sure that we are able to
provide evidence.
To ensure that we are properly armed
with facts, always conduct research on
what we write and talk about. Today, let
us talk about Providing Evidence to
Support Opinion.

Remember:
Fact is a statement that can be proven
true, while an opinion is a statement that
cannot be proven true. Facts can be
confirmed by
checking books or reliable internet
sources. If a fact is about a person, you
can ask that person whether the fact is
true. The same does not go for an
opinion.
Evidence may include the claims, facts
and figures, graphs, statistics,
surveys, experiments, etc. as the core
sources to support your opinion. It is
important to develop this skill to
becoming an independent person with the
critical abilities necessary to avoid being
manipulated easily

What is Evidence?
Evidence may include the claims, facts
and figures, graphs, statistics,
surveys, experiments, etc. as the core
sources to support your opinion. Adding
evidence in your opinion helps you to
conceptualize verbally and textually
imply. It serves as the base to convince
the readers or listener of your opinion
backed up by evidence.
