1.0 INTRODUCTION
This method statement provides guidance and site rules to employees and Sub Contractors for the
protection of personnel engaged in the sacrificial anode installation.
The intent of this method statement is to provide the broad outline as to how the site works shall
be executed for the South Ghawar Wells Tie In Project, controlled, and delivered as per the
schedule with utmost importance to Quality, Health & Safety and Environmental requirements.
The detailed method statement to which construction shall be carried out.
The main objective of the overall BI-34-15420-2002 is to provide grassroot development for
gathering well fluid from wells spread across the Mazalij fields, using a system of new RTP
flowlines, and remote headers.
The document describes the method to be followed for South Ghawar Wells Tie In project
construction. The scope includes 22 flowlines associated to the 22 wells and 2 remote headers
across the Mazalij Fields
All person undertaking work covered by this method statement will be aware of the requirements
of this method statement.
This method statement will be applicable for the installation of temporary cathodic protection
system for the protection primarily for the pipeline construction of the Mazalij fields in South
Ghawar Wells Tie In project under the scope of CAT international work.
3.0 REFERENCES
4.0 RESPONSIBILITIES
Following are the responsibilities and reporting structure of personnel involved in the scope of
the procedure:
CONSTRUCTION MANAGER
The company QA and QC Manager are the representative of the project and has the responsibility for
the implementation and maintenance of the quality management system.
QC SUPERVISOR / QC INSPECTOR:
Shall carry out planned inspections, surveillance inspections, and release hold points by signing various
quality records as proof of inspection conforming to specifications.
QA/QC Inspector shall issue Request for Inspection (RFI) to Saudi Aramco as defined by the SATIP
using Saudi Aramco form Eng. # 6717 or thru Quality Management Information System (QMIS).
QC Inspector shall accompany the Saudi Aramco representative to carry out routine inspections and
release hold points by signing and obtaining the Saudi Aramco representative approval signatures on
the various quality records as proof of inspection conforming to specifications
Shall be responsible for ensuring that the project construction per IFC packages and conforming to
Saudi Aramco Standards.
SAFETY OFFICER:
The assigned Safety Officer shall be responsible for the observance of all safety precautions required.
The location of each anode bed, junction boxes and cable route shall be marked at site during (stakes)
as per IFC project’s drawings.
Temporary access road and pad should be constructed to provide access into and through construction
site.
All anodes with cracks, inclusions or other defects should not be used.
All anodes with damaged insulation or wire, abrasion damage, splices, and/or any form of wire repair
should not be used.
Repaired impressed current anode cable leads, anodes, or anodes with repaired anode-to-cable
connections should not be used.
Touch inspection of the anode cable insulation immediately adjacent to the head of the anode.
Anodes that are found to have noticeable “necking” or an obvious reduction in diameter of the
insulation near the head of the anode should not be installed.
Ensure that survey and excavation is as per the relevant construction drawing.
Check that excavation is to the proper depth for installation of anodes and as per relevant Aramco
Standards and IFC drawings.
Visually and physically check all anodes to verify that there are no defects/damage.
The pre-packaged anode shall be soaked in clean water for a minimum period of 24 hours prior to
installation.
Ensure that, for specific situations such as road crossings, intersection with existing pipelines, and
existing anode beds; installation of anode junction boxes, bonding stations, marker posts, etc; the
methods and procedures to be followed shall be the one set forth in the specifications, standards,
and Client drawings.
As soon as the anodes are laid out, they shall be thoroughly soaked with water prior to, during, and
after backfilling.
The trench shall be back-filled using selected backfill material (no stones or sharp objects). The fill
must be tamped solidly for maximum contact between anode and earth. This eliminates the
possibility of voids, which prevent attainment of expected resistance values and reduce the anode
life expectancy. Care must be taken to avoid damaging or snaring the cable lead.
The anode cable shall be routed to the splice location, test station, junction box or directly to the
structure as required by the design.
Record the inspection and/or test results on Checklists indicated by the relevant SATIP / SAIC /
SATR.
Check that each cable is tagged with its assigned code and terminated as shown on cable schedule
and as per applicable Aramco Standard Drawing.
After installation of the RTP pipe to pipe connectors, prepare the pipe connector clamp which came
together with the pipe connectors
All oil and grease should be removed and the area a braided with a wire brush and file.
Properly install the pipe connector clamp on the exposed metallic portion of the RTP pipe to pipe
connector.
The anode should be installed horizontally close to (but not touching) the pipe connector.
The anode cable should be placed in direct contact with the metallic clamp.
The clamp/wire connection should be solid, and the whole clamp and connector then completely
wrapped with a corrosion resistant tape.
The anode should be completely saturated with water before backfilling(approx..4 gal(15 li.))
As for the protective coating requirements, it shall comply with the Aramco Painting / Coating
specification, Client requirements for above ground and for below ground and QA/P143 Painting
Procedure.
Personnels
o Work permit receiver
o Safety Officer
o Construction Foreman
o QC Inspector
o Technician and Labor
All sacrificial anodes will be installed at all RTP pipe to pipe connector locations as specified in project
drawings and Scope of Work in accordance with specifications and standards.
The exact installation location of all CP components will be taken from the Plan & Profile drawings. In case of
any deviation from the Plan and Profile due to the site conditions, the Client representative will be notified
prior to making any field changes.
All system cables shall be routed and collected together at the appropriate sacrificial anode location.
Contractor Supervision and craft men involved in the job are to comply with all safety rules and
regulations applicable to this procedure.
Contractor to secure the necessary work permits and clearances from Saudi Aramco Operations
and prior to start any activities that are involved in this procedure.
Provide the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and appropriate tools.
Tool box talk to be conducted to the crew prior to the activity.
Provide barricades, signboard/warning sign in strategic area during the activity. Assign flagman if
necessary to alert vehicles passing.
A stand-by emergency vehicle shall be at the site during the progress of the activity.
Advice concerned Aramco Representative from Operations for the schedule and progress of
activity.
All concerned proponent organization shall review and accept this procedure prior to
implementation.
Qualified and authorized people are only allowed to enter the working area.
Qualified and certified persons are only allowed to do testing and termination.
