1.0 OBJECTIVE:
This work method statement covers outline procedure for Column Works for DESIGN AND
BUILD FOR THE PROPOSED OPTIMIZATION OF TERMINAL FACILITIES AND ITS
ASSOCIATED WORKS AT SULTAN AZLAN SHAH AIRPORT, IPOH, PERAK DARUL

6.0 METHOD OF STATEMENT (METHODOLOGY)

6.1 General Instruction

6.1.1 Manufacturer’s technical information must be provided by supplier such as label analysis,
instruction for handling, storing and applying each material proposed for use in this process.

6.2 Sample for Verification & Confirmation


6.2.1 Mock-up of each colour and material to be applied will be prepared for verification and
confirmation by consultant representative. Besides, colour chart indicating list of materials
and applications for each coat of each sample shall be submitted for approval prior to
physical works on site.

6.3 Delivery of Paint


6.3.1 Delivery materials to the project site in manufacturer’s original, unopened packages and
containers bearing manufacturer’s name and label. The label or decorated container shall
state:
a. The type of product
b. The brand name
c. Code number of paint
d. The manufacturer batch number
6.4 Storage
6.4.1 Material delivered are stored in tightly covered container in a well-ventilated area at a
minimum ambient of 45 Fahrenheit. Maintain container in clean condition, free of foreign
material and residue. Keep storage area neat and orderly, remove oil rags and waste
daily.

6.5 Executions
6.5.1 Primer and Finish Coats
6.5.1.1 Paint shall not apply in rain, mist or when the relative humidity exceeds 85 percent
or damp or wet surface.
6.5.1.2 Examine Substrates, area and condition under which painting will be performed for
compliance with paint application requirements. Paints shall not apply until
unsatisfactory condition have been corrected and surface receiving paint are
thoroughly dry.
6.5.1.2 Remove hardware and hardware accessories plates, machine surface, lighting,
fixture and similar items already installed that are not to be painted. If removal is
impractical or impossible because of the size or weight of the item, surface applied
protection shall be provided before surface preparation and painting after

completing painting operation in each space of area, reinstall items removed using
worker skilled in trade involved.
6.5.1.3 cleaning the substrates of substances that could impair the bond of the various
coating. Oil and grease shall be removed before clearing.

6.5.2 Surface Preparation of Plastering


6.5.2.1 Cracks and other imperfections are to be pointed or cut and make good.
6.5.2.2 Determine moisture content of surfaces by performing appropriate test (refer ITP)
by the supplier representative.

6.5.3 Surface Preparation of Metalwork.


6.5.3.1 All dirt and grease is to be removed by wiping or washing.
6.5.3.2 All rust, scale or loose priming paints are to be removed back to
bare metal by wire brushing or chipping as required.
6.5.3.3 Surface is to be rubbed down to remove all irregularities.
6.5.3.4 Bare patches in metalwork delivered primed are to be brought
Forward with the appropriate primer before receiving the treatment specified.

6.5.4 Surface Preparation of Woodwork


6.5.4.1 All dirt, grease, etc. is to be cleaned.
6.5.4.2 Surface is to be rubbed down with sand paper to remove all
projecting fibers, particular attention being paid to moldings. All dust shall be
removed.

6.5.5 Sealer & Primer


6.5.5.1 Plastered, rendered, concrete, brick, asbestos cement and similar surfaces: apply
one coat
6.5.5.2 Hardboard, fireboard, etc.: apply one coat of plaster primer.
6.5.5.3 Plastic surfaces: etch with abrasive paper and white spirit.
6.5.5.4 Steel and iron surface: apply one coat of red lead primer or zinc chromate primer.
Edges are to be primed first and allowed to dry, and then the whole surface
primed.
6.5.5.5 Galvanised or zinc surfaces: either applies one coat of calcium plumbate primer
or etch. With proprietary solution and apply one coat of zinc chromate primer.
Etching solution is to keep away from plaster, and is to be well washed off and the
metal dried before priming.
6.5.5.6 Copper, aluminium and lead surfaces: etch with abrasive paper and white spirit.
6.5.5.7 Coated soil pipe etc.: apply one coat of aluminum primer.

6.5.6 Priming Joinery

6.5.6.1 All joinery to be painted shall be primed before delivery to the site or, in the case
of joinery prepared on site, as soon as possible after preparation. Surfaces
subsequently cut or damaged shall be re-primed.
6.5.6.2 All hidden faces of joinery, including the back of boarding, frames, skirting,
architraves, etc. and bottom edges of doors, shall be primed before fixing.
Approved clear wood preservative shall be using instead, where adjacent faces
have polished or natural finish.

6.5.7 Making Good


6.5.7.1 Any cracks or defects appearing in painted surfaces before completion or before
the expiration of the Defects and Liability Period shall be cut out, stooped, primed
and painted and in affected wood-seal areas they shall be sanded and re-coated
and make good to the satisfaction of the Architect. Where cracks occur in walls
they shall be filled with appropriate fillers and shall be repainted as directed by the
consultant representative.

6.5.8 Protection
3.5.8.1 All other works, fitting, paving etc. shall be covered up and protected as necessary
during decoration, and all splashes and paint marks shall be removed on
completion.

7.0 ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

7.1 Environmental Aspect, Impact & Control Measures.

The airside activities that will be carried out during the operation stage and the potential
environmental impact that may occur is summarized with mitigation measures in the following
table.

9.0 SAFETY MEASUREMENT


i. All work is prohibited to start before receiving Permit to Work (PTW) by the Building Owner/
Project Owner.
ii. All site worker is compulsory to attend safety induction from the project authorities to ensure
that all worker is aware of site requirement.
iii. Use the proper tool for the job. Worker needs to avoid the first impulse to use whatever tool
(or object) is around you to get a work task done. Using the wrong tool for the job can result
in an injury or damage to the tool which can lead to an injury in the future.
iv. Always wear the proper PPE for the work task. All worker is obligated to ware complete
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety helmet, coverall, safety shoes and etc.
v. Working areas must be secured by preventing unauthorized access by using barrier and
signs.
vi. All worker is to make sure chemicals are properly labelled and stored. Improper labelling and
storage can lead to injuries or property loss due to fires, corrosion, etc.
vii. All workers need to stay alert of any potential hazards such as dangerous substance and
confined spaces, so that measures can be developed to eliminate and minimize the risks.
viii. All the workers must ensure that the working area is cleaned and is in safe condition after the
work is completed.
