6.0 METHOD OF STATEMENT (METHODOLOGY)

6.1 INTRODUCTION

6.1.1 This method statement applies to all personnel involved in the construction and supervision of the
works including the consultant site staff required for inspection and approval works.
6.1.1 Material for permanent construction such as precast block drain U-shape & pipe culvert
shall be submitted by the project engineer in the form of sample or technical brochures by
using material approval form and all approval in writing to be obtained from the consultant
prior to commencement of works.

6.1.2 For the proposed of this method statement, surface drainage includes all permanent drains in open
ground such as roadside drains (e.g. side table drain, block drain, back lane drain, rc pipe culvert
and sump).
6.1.3 Request for inspection and all checklist shall be submitted by the project engineer and all approval
in writing to be obtained from the consultant prior to commencements of works.

6.2 SETTING OUT

6.2.1 The exact location & alignment of each type of drain is set out on site by the survey team
after checking with the project engineer or supervisor according to construction drawing.
The project engineer shall then carry out and alignment inspection with the consultant site
staff to obtain his approval prior commencement of excavation.

6.2.2 Site working drawing approved by the consultant for each typed of drain prepared by the project
engineer shall be used to assist in the correct setting out of the drain.
6.2.3 The alignment of the drain is set out by a series of pegs with the corresponding offset pegs set at
equal distance away & indicate with the required excavation depth to foundation level.

6.3 EXCAVATION

6.3.1 Depending on the size & depth of the drain, the trench of channel shall be excavated using the
appropriate levels set out in the offset pegs and under the charge of site supervisor.
6.3.2 The excavated materials are either stockpile nearby to be reused for backfilling or disposed off site
by haulage tipper to spoils tips.
6.3.3 Where soft sport are encountered at the foundation level, either the unsuitable material are removed
and replace with suitable and compacted imported materials or the localized excavation made good
with mass concrete or as directed by consultant.
6.3.4 For excavation or trench deeper than 1.5m, temporary shoring such as timbering shall be provided if
the existing ground not in good condition.
6.3.5 For excavation of trench in firm ground, a side slope 1V:0.5H batter shall be provided.

6.4 FOUNDATION PREPARATION

6.4.1 The foundation shall be prepared as shown in the construction drawings and joint inspection with
C.O.W shall carry out if necessary.
6.4.2 dewatering by water pump maybe required to enable a dry surface working.
6.4.3 When blinding layer is required it should be placed immediately after the foundation preparation
has been completed to protected it from inclement weather.
6.4.4 Where the foundation specified is sand replacement, the sand shall be replaced in layer and
compacted by approved compacting equipment.

6.5 DRAIN CONSTRUCTION

6.5.1 The different type of drains is laid on to the foundation either by hand such as small precast units of
roadside & suitable machineries for RC pipe culvert.
6.5.2 For precast concrete drain, the gaps between precast unit are filled up with cement sand mortar 1:3
mixes and thoroughly rammed into place.
6.5.3 For roadside drains, the weep hole is provided with graded filters wrapped found inside a geotextile
membrane behind the wall and held in place by initial backfilling of compacted material. Brickwork
of concrete courses and cement rendering for the wall shall be carried out as shown in the drawing.

6.6 BACKFILLING
6.6.1 All backfilling shall be carried out using approved materials such as sand or suitable earth fill
depending on the type of drains.
6.6.2 Prior to backfilling a joint site inspection shall be carried out to ensure that the drains are not
defective on the external side and all unsuitable material and debris are removed from the backfill
area.

6.7 AS-BUILT DRAWING

6.7.1 A-built drawing will be taken after the drawing work completed, show the drain alignment, drain
size, drain type, drain invert level, size of sump & sump invert level.

7.0 ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUES

7.1 Environmental Aspect, Impact & Control Measures.

The airside activities that will be carried out during the operation stage and the potential
environmental impact that may occur is summarized with mitigation measures in the following

in an injury or damage to the tool which can lead to an injury in the future.
iv. Always wear the proper PPE for the work task. All worker is obligated to ware complete
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety helmet, coverall, safety shoes and etc.
