MAP Testing
We finished MAP testing today. Our
class worked hard and I am so proud of
them! We did have a couple of friends
who discovered that their headphones
don’t work very well. Ask your child if a
new pair is needed.
Reading
This week we read The Night Sky. It was
a nonfiction piece about space. We
learned about the moon, sun, planets and
even comets and meteors. We also
enjoyed looking for constellations. We
know how to find the Big and Little
Dippers, Draco the Dragon (look for his
tail between the Dippers) and Orion the
Hunter. Next week we will read a fantasy
called In the Attic.

Bonus word: Valentine
Math
We finally finished unit 5. We didn’t
have switcheroo because of the storm
day and late start, but we will be back at
it next week. Unit 6 is mostly adding and
subtracting, because we are trying to
develop fact power. Keep practicing
those basic facts!

Continents
In social studies we have been working on
a geography unit. We studied the
continents. Look on our school website or
classroom blog www.mrsw.posterous.com
to see our voicethread project. Everyone
did their best and it shows!
February
We will be very busy next month. We are
going to the PWLC on Feb. 2nd from
12:30-2:30 for Rodent Week. I’d love
some helpers, so let me know if you would
like to join us for the afternoon. We will
also celebrate the 100th Day of School
and have a Valentine’s Party. I’m sending
a class list today just in case your child
would like to get started on the
Valentines. They can be sent to school as
soon as they are finished. It would be
nice to have them by Feb. 8th so we could
have time to sort and deliver them. We
will be making Valentine bags here at
school, so you don’t have to worry about
that at home. Of course, February is also
Black History Month, Dental Health
Month and I Love to Read Month, so we
will have lots going on in our room! Whew!
