ACADEMIC READING AND WRITING

I- Objectives:

a. Define graphic organizer.


b. Distinguish the function of Venn Diagram, Network Tree, and Fishbone Map
c. Create a graphic organizer based on the given topic.
d. Appreciate the lesson one can learn from the life of a butterfly.

A. References Academic Reading and Writing for Senior HS
B. Materials
Laptop, power point presentation about graphic organizer, LCD projector,
video clip about butterfly and moth, cartolina, and marker.

IV- Procedures:
1. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson
The teacher will ask the following questions:
a. Who among the class is fascinated with butterfly?
b. What do you think is the lesson we can learn from a butterfly?
2. Establishing the purpose of the lesson
A video clip about butterfly and moth will be presented before the class. After
viewing, the students should complete the diagram given based on the
information presented in the video.
3. Presenting examples/instances of the lessons

The teacher will present the following graphic organizer:


a. Venn Diagram
b. Network Tree
c. Fishbone map

4. Discussing new concepts and practicing new skills

1. The teacher will discuss the definition of graphic organizer.


2. After such, the function of the diagrams presented will be elaborated.

5. Developing mastery (leads to formative assessment)

1. Learners will be grouped. They will create a graphic organizer based on the
given topic.
2. Each group will present their work.

6. Finding practical applications of concepts and skills in daily living


The skill in organizing information plays a vital aspect in academic writing.
Graphic organizers are helpful tools in doing such. These are visual representations of
concepts that aid in structuring information into organizational patterns. Graphic
organizers also assist the readers and writers to easily understand the given data.
7. Making generalization and abstraction about the lesson
1. Think of and site situations where can you apply your knowledge of graphic
organizer in real life scenario.
8. Evaluating learning
On your activity pad, create a graphic organizer about the faculty of Sta. Lucia
High School
