resemblance. There is only one thing noticeable between the two, Val is paler than her.
One night, Amy’s father went to their house and talked to her parents. She did not intend
to listen to the conversation but she heard that they are talking about Val. She could not
understand the whole thing so she decided to lock up herself in her bedroom. Feeling
confused, she tried to call Val but there was no answer. She tried it again but still Val
was not picking up her phone. Suddenly, she heard her mother exclaimed. She called Val
again. Someone spoke on the other line.

DIALOGUE BETWEEN ODIN AND MIMIR…

ODIN: Aged Mimir….You hold the knowledge of the past and the future in your magic
waters, LET ME HAVE BUT ONE SIP. Then I can know enough to protect the men and women
of the earth the hate of the giants.

(MIMIR SPOKE SOFTLY BUT LOUD)

MIMIR: The price of one drink from this well is not cheap. And once you have drunk and
gazed into the mirror of life, you may wish you had not. For sorrow and death as well as joy
are pictured there so you should think again before you ask to drink.

ODIN: WHAT IS YOUR PRICE AGED Mimir?

MIMIR: You are great and good Odin. You have worked hard to make the world. Only those
who know hardwork may drink from my well. However that is not enough. What have you
given up that is very dear to you? WHAT HAVE YOU SACRIFICED? THE PRICE OF A DRINK MUST
BE A GREAT SACRIFICE. ARE YOU STILL WILLING TO PAY THE PRICE?

ODIN: (THINK DEEPLY)

NARRATOR: ODIN THOUGHT OF HIS SON WHOM HE LOVED MOST IN THE WORLD.. to give up
his son is like giving up his life and all that was wonderful around him. Mimir read the thoughts
of Odin.

MIMIR: NO, Im not asking for your dear son. The fates say his life must be short but, he has
yet time to live and bring happiness to the gods and the world. I ask for one of your eyes.

NARRATOR: Odin put his hands up to his bright blue eyes. Those two eyes had gazed across
the world from his high throne in the shining city of the gods. His eyes had taught him what
was good and beautiful. What was evil and ugly/ But those eyes had also seen his children,
the men and women of the earth., struggling against the hate of the giants. One eye was small
sacrifice to win knowledge of how to help them. And without another thought.

ODIN: (PLUCKED HIS ONE EYE) HERE IT IS!

MIMIR: And here is your water! DRINK DEEPLY, BRAVE KING, SO YOU MA SEE ALL THAT YOU
WISH IN THE MIRROR OF LIFE!

(Odin took the water)

ODIN: OH! I see sorrow and death as well as joy and happiness. BUT I ALSO SEE THE
GLORIOUS PROMISE AT THE END.

Narrator: So Odin, the great king became one-eyed. If you can find Mimir’s well. You will see
odin’s blue eye resting at the bottom. It is there to remind men and women OF THE GREAT
SACRIFICE HE MADE FOR THEM.

Do you know of other sacrifice story that led to success ?

Through the years, our country hopes and seeks for the betterment of life of every Filipino. Politically, we
have been led by prominent leaders…Marcos the intelligent… Cory Aquino the unity advocate… Ramos
the wise… Estrada the mass servant… Arroyo the petite giant… Aquino the freedom fighter and now
Duterte the man of steel. Under these leaders has been a dream….a dream to alleviate the lives of many
Filipinos from poverty. Great efforts have been exerted to ensure economic advancement, industry
development and growth and peace and order enforcement. But despite all the efforts, the country has
remained to be underdeveloped.

Do we still have hope for a better life, environment and nation? How can the government best serve our
people? In this particular era, does technology portray a role to improve the life of every individual? How
can this be when such technology cannot be accessed by all?
One of the agencies of the government that serves to upgrade the life status of every individual is the
Philippine Statistics Authority. Under its Philippine Statistics System it claims that “Data plays a vital
role in the day to day existence of people and organization alike.” It is true that when data are processed,
disseminated and utilized properly it can become sound basis or effective tool for decision and policy-
making. But just having the data is not enough, so the agency now came up with the so called “Data
Innovation”. According to the Philippine Statistic System, “Data innovation means the use of new or non-
traditional data sources and methods to gain a more nuanced understanding of development changes.”

_____________________________________________________

DATA INNOVATION: KEY TO A BETTER NATION

Has the government exhausted all the
means to carry out its duties for a better nation ? In this particular era, does technology portray a role to
improve the life of every individual? How can this be when technology cannot be accessed by all??

One of the agencies of the government that serves to upgrade the life status of every individual is the
Philippine Statistics Authority. The PSA System claims the significant role and power of data in the day
to day existence of people and organizations alike. Through it, data innovation was born. “Data
innovation means the use of new or non-traditional data sources and methods to gain a more nuanced
understanding of development changes.”

New or non-traditional data may refer to the utilization of the so called technology. If an agency is
connected or wired, accessibility to and delivery of data can be much facilitated.

The claim that data innovation is the key to every nation’s success, has been proven in many countries.
Currently, the Philippine government has accessed better data that can be utilized to improve more the
status of the country’s economy, infrastructure, the maritime, employment and education. Thus,
responding to the needs of the entire nation. Furthermore, data innovation has been the reason why
many of the societal and world issues and problems have been addressed.
Let’s think for example one of the perennial problems in the Philippines today which is poverty. The
government has closely monitored the number of Filipino families that has submerged to indigence.
Through given data and statistics, the government has served a great number of people. Evidently, it has
reached the poverty-stricken places to offer the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program or the so called
4Ps. Grantees of 4PS are given ATM cards to easily access the financial assistance of the government.
Probably, with a much accurate data through the so called ‘innovation’, more and more deserving and
rightful recipients can be traced to avail this program and services of the government.

Recently, one of the major tragedies that hit the Philippine Maritime industry occurred when typhoon
Hanna and Habagat thumped parts of Luzon. According to the news, two motorboats that bring the
Guimaras people to Iloilo capsized on the sea. Aside from this, seafarers were injured and properties
were damaged and destroyed. The data show that the Guimaras people had to fare on daily basis to
access their basic needs and even education and other government services in the nearby island of Iloilo.
Since, presentation of data has been innovated, this eventuality has opened the mind of the government
to modernize the means of transportation of the people of Guimaras to ensure safety specifically during
typhoon season. If this horrible incident left destruction to properties, injury and thirty one dead, then
the government specifically the maritime industry had to act better now.

How about the business sector? How does data innovation help this life support of the government to
sustain the breath of the nation? Undeniably, the voluminous demand of the stakeholders is the key to
the supply and production of all kinds of industry. Data innovation has given way to problem solvers,
analysts and planners, as well as business enthusiasts to come up with better strategies to cope with the
demands of our society. Whether it be food, shelter, luxury, vanity, technology and of course, man
power. Every time one turns his or her mobile applications or GPS or does on-line shopping, or find a
university or college to enroll in, or roam the nearby provinces for travel destination and barkada
escapade; the power of data innovation is certainly on the go. Thus, giving the economy a greater chance
to shoot up which is the very target of every nation.

Undeniably, with data innovation, just by the tip of our chosen fingers, more and more problems have
been addressed, the unknown have been reached, environmentally dying cities have been saved,
education has leveled up and the good reputation of the Filipinos has been restored.

Accessibility of reliable data and statistics can be a way for the local government units to find out how
they can best serve the interest and need of every Filipino from food security to job placement and
eventually, to a more comfortable life.

Obviously, WE Filipinos have long waited for a better nation. Perhaps, the country has gone its way up
there to be developed again…. to show the world that it is really more fun here in the Philippines and it is
one of the best places to live in.

Accessibility of reliable data and statistics can be a way for the local government units to find out how
they can best serve the interest and need of every Filipino from food security to job placement and
eventually, to a more comfortable life.

The vision of every nation is the same … to give its people a more comfortable and decent life. Let’s hope
that this will not remain a dream because not all dreams are bound to come true.
One of the agencies of the government that serves to upgrade the life status of every individual is the
Philippine Statistics Authority. Under it, is the Philippine Statistics System claiming that “Data plays a
