Course Description :

Course Competencies:

The course introduces the students to development of the Philippines as a nation from
Pre-Colonialism to the formation of its government as a Republic. It will have a general survey
of the significant events that shaped the Filipino nation while ate the same times traces our
national and cultural heritage. Thus, it will be presented in sequential and chronological order.
The course is also a study of the significant historical stages that formed the economic, political,
social and cultural development of the country through an analysis of the relationship of past
events with the present condition of the nation.

After completing the course, the students are expected to manifest the following competencies:

I. INFORMATION LITERACY

 Identify the different periods of Philippine History


 Gain a deeper understanding of Philippine History
 Acquire the habit of critically analyzing historical situations that shaped
Philippines today;
 Develop the confidence of the students in voicing out their opinions and
stands in various issues;
 Demonstrate an understanding of the historical background of Philippine
politics and governance.

II. CRITICAL THINKING

 Analyze and conceptualize the history and formation of the cultural heritage
of the Filipino people;
 Compare and contrast the level of nationalism that prevailed in the past with
the level of nationalism that exists today;
 Analyze how events in the past have influenced the present Philippine politics,
government and economy;
 Critically understand the significance of the different stages of our history;
 Intelligently explain the relationship of past events to our present condition

III. COMMUNICATION CAPABILITY


 Explain how political ideologies affect the social and political life of Filipinos
 Explain the roles of different political institutions
 Discuss the changes in Philippine politics and governance
 Discuss the institution’s VMGO orally

IV. CULTURAL AND SOCIAL AWARENESS AND RESPONSIBILITY

 Develop a deep sense of pride and identity as a Filipino through patriotism


which will lead to action in making a significant contribution in nation
building.
 Value the lessons to gained from the lives of the great Philippine historical
personalities;
 Appreciate the accomplishments and sacrifices of our fellow Filipinos for the
welfare of the nation
 Develop one’s ability in giving honor and dignity to the State as a citizen of
the Philippines.
 Respect and appreciate the complexities of Philippine history.

V. CHRISTIAN CHARACTER

 Practice the following values: faith in God, appreciating the history of the
Philippines, fairness in judgment, will power, and positive attitudes toward
negative experiences.
 Show Christian core values most especially the love for God, forgiveness of
sins, unconditional love, and renunciation of violence while dealing with the
different facets of the teaching and learning process

VI. ETHICAL AND RESPONSIBLE USE OF TECHNOLOGY

 Assume responsibility and proper handling of school equipment and property.


 Exhibit intellectual honesty and stewardship in the use of technology in the
learning process
 Develop patriotism, nationalism and the love to citizenry and the State.
 Active awareness on socio-political conditions.

VII. GENDER RESPECT

 Manifest respect for different genders in one’s speech and action.


 Appreciate differences in the nature of genders while at the same time
acknowledging equality in abilities and potentials.
 Value the contributions of all persons, regardless of gender.
