LESSON PLAN

Grade 11 Statistics and Probability

Module/Book Next Century Math: Content Standard The learner demonstrates understanding of key concepts of random variables and probability
Statistics and Probability distributions.

Lesson : Random Variables Performance Standard The learner is able to apply an appropriate random variable for a given real-life problem (such as
Sem / Quarter: 2nd / 3rd in decision making and games of chance).
Date Domain Learning Competencies Tasks Page No. Materials
March ___, RANDOM To Illustrate a random variables: A. Daily Routine:

space, - Checking of Attendance PPT
presentation
- House Rules

B. Priming:

- Grouping the Students

- Reviewing the previous lesson DISCRETE or
CONTINUOUS random variables
 The teacher will present phrases of random varibales

1. the number of habalhabal going to Mibolo everyday

2. the speed of a Mam Teleron’s motorcycle PPT
presentation
3. the amount of alcohol to sanitize hands
4. the number of facemask used everyday
5. the weight of newborns each year in a hospital
6.the number of vaccinated for anti-covid 19

- Motivation: Guessing a Word according to Action

Spin the Wheel
 Showing the how names the students are ramdomly (laptop)
chosen to answer the activity Candy, pcs. of
 Randomly drawing a name from a box to receive a papers
candy.
C. Lesson Proper:

Activity:
Paper stips
Asking students the meaning of the words
(in their own idea) below
EXPERIMENT
SAMPLE SPACE
EVENT
 The teacher will distrbute a piece of paper to the group with a
scenario of an expiment. PPT
presentation
Direction:
Find the sample space and the values of random variable.

A coin is tossed once.Let Y be the random variable representing

the number of tails that occur. Let H be the head and Let T be the
tail. Draw a tree diagram and list down the results or outcome.

Analysis:
1.What do you think is the type of random variable expressed in
the experiment? Why?

Answer: discrete random variable

Because it is asking for the NUMBER of tail that occurs in the
experiment

2. How many possible outcome during the first , second

and third toss of the coin? Why is it so?

Answer: there is always either of two faces is the chance in

every toss. Head or Tail.

3. What is the probability or chance to get either head or tail?

Why do u say so?
Answer: ½
The teacher lets the students sketch the tree diagram of
the experiment.

Chalk and board

4. From the skethed tree diagram , what are the possible

outcomes of the experiment?
Answer:
HHH, HHT, HTH, HTT, THH, THT, TTH, TTT,

5. How many are the possoble outcomes?

Answer: There are 8 possible outcomes

6. How will you find the random variable Y?

Answer:
Since,
HHH = has 3 heads
HHT = has 2 heads
HTH = has 2 heads
HTT = has 1 heads
THH = has 2 heads
THT = has 1 heads
TTH = has 1 heads
TTT = has 0 head ,
by take the commonality of the number of
heads in the outcomes, therefore Random variable Y is 0, 1, 2, 3

7. From the outcomes of the experiments, how do we express

the sample space of the expirment?
Answer:
SY = {HHH, HHT, HTH, HTT, THH, THT, TTH, TTT}
Abstraction: (Generalization)
1. What is an Experiment?
Answer: Student’s own answer through understanding the lesson
2. In your own understanding, What are the steps in finding the possible
outcomes of the experiment?
Answer:
Sketch the tree diagram , List down the event by following the arrow
indicated and count the number of events for the possible outcomes.
3. What is an Event?
Answer: Student’s own answer through understanding the lesson
4. What is a Sample Space?
Answer: Student’s own answer through understanding the lesson
5. Mathematically, What can you say about the expression of the sample
space SY = {HHH, HHT, HTH, HTT, THH, THT, TTH, TTT} ?
Answer: it is expressed at the set of the outcomes of the experiments,
where the events are the elements of the set.
6. How do random variable applied in real life situation?
Answer:
 The return on an investment in a one-year period
 The price of an equity
 The number of customers entering a store
 The sales volume of a store on a particular day
 The turnover rate at your organization next year
 Conducting Research
 Gambling
 Sports

D. Evaluation PPT
Application: presentation
Presentation of Rubrics
The teacher will give problem to each group for their activity.
Each group will present their answer with different introductions in a form
(singing emphasizing lesson lyrics,dance, actions, drama, and etc.)

GROUP 1: . Activity sheets

Two balls are drawn in succession without replacement from

a box containing 5 red balls and 6 blue balls. Let Z be the random
variable representing the number of blue balls. Sketch the tree
diagram of the experiment and find the sample space and the
values of random variable Z.
GROUP 2:

Suppose three cell phone are tested at random. Let D

represent the defective cell phone and let N represent the non-
defective cell phone. If we let X be the random variable for the
number of defective cell phone, sketch the tree diagram of the
experiment and find the sample space and the values of random
variable X.

GROUP 3:

A coin is tossed twice. Let M be the random variable

representing the number of tails that occur. Sketch the tree
diagram of the experiment and find the sample space and the
values of random variable Z.
