Methodology
Introductory 1. Routinely Activities
Activity 2. Checking of assignment
(___5__ minutes)
Activity
(___10__ minutes) Let the students draw a normal curve with six different standard deviations under (-3,-
2,-1,0,1,2,3).

Analysis Ask:
(___5__ minutes) 1. How much do you think is the area or percentage area under the normal curve from
0 to 1 SD? 0-2 SD? 0-3SD? 1-2 SD? Other ranges?
Abstraction
(___15__ minutes) Because of the importance of areas under the standard normal curve, tables of those
areas have been constructed. A four-decimal-place number in the table gives the area
under the standard normal curve between 0 and a specified number z or SD.

Give the areas under the normal curve for the following ranges of z:

1. 0 to 1 or 0 to -1
2. 0 to 2 or 0 to -2
3. 0 to 3 or 0 to -3
4. 1 to 2 or -1 to -2
5. 1 to 3 or -1 to -3
6. 2 to 3 or -2 to -3
Emphasize that getting areas under the normal curve allow us to classify the data in a
given normal distribution categorically. For example, in a class with scores that are
normally distributed, we can identify which and how many belongs to the above
average group, average group and below average group.

Application
(___15__ minutes) Find the area under the standard normal curve between the following given ranges of
z:

1. 0 to 1.96
2. -1.53 to 0
3. to the right of 0.71
4. to the left of -2.12
5. between 1.08 and 2.96
6. between -1.3 and 0.99

Assessment Method Activity

(___5__ minutes)
Test Find the area under the standard
normal curve.

1. between 0 and 0.47

2. between 0 and 0.99
3. between -2.56 and 1.21
4. to the right of 1.2
5. to the left of 0.78

Concluding
Activity Say a word on this quotation:

This is usually a brief but
effective closing activity “Every activity worth doing has a learning curve.”
such as a strong quotation,
a short song, an anecdote,
parable or a letter that
inspires the learners to do
something to practice their
new learning.
