INTRODUCTION

This Multi-Level Materials (MLMs) for Mathematics developed by the

Bureau of Elementary Education through the assistance of the United Nations
Development Programme (UNDP) under Project PHI/93/011 titled Support
Programme for the Universalization of Quality Primary Education (UQPE)
Through Strengthening of Multigrade Program in Philipine Education. These
materials have been purposely prepared to supplement and complement
learnings made through the basic texts. Each module constitutes the total
learning process and may therefore be used not only to reinforce or enrich
learning but also to develop a new lesson.

These multi-level materials are recommended for use in elementary

schools in the -country.

1. Which has a shape of a triangle,?

Copy the numbers.

2. Which has a shape of a square?

3. Which has a shape of a circle?

4. Which has a shape of a rectangle?

B. Study the figures and then complete the sentences.
Write your answer on the blank.

Example:

Triangle 8 has 3 sides.

2
Let's Study

Study the figure.

The figure is not complete.

It is one part or one-half of a circle.

We can make the figure symmetrical.

Look at this.

3
To make the figure symmetrical, we will match one part
of the figure with the other part.

Look at this.

one part other part

The figure is now a symmetrical figure.

It has two equal matching parts.

Look at this figure. I

4
Let's make the figure symmetrical by matching one part
with the other part on one-half of the figure.

This is a symmetrical figure.

It has two equal matching parts.

Here is another one.

This is how we form the figure symmetrical.

Match the two parts

5
Now, try doing this.

Make symmetrical figures out of the shapes below.

Remember:

A symmetrical figure has two parts that match

equally when they are folded.

The lines along the fold are the lines of symmetry.

To form a symmetrical figure, we match one-half of the

figure with the other one-half of the figure.
