Problem 1-15
In a binary communication channel, either 0 or 1 is transmitted. Due to channel
noise, a 0 can be received as a 1 and vice versa. Given that the probability of sending
a 0 is 0.5; the probability of detecting a 1 when a 0 is sent is 0.6; the probability of
detecting a 0 when a 1 is sent is 0.2.
(a) Find the probabilities of detecting a 0; and detecting a 1, at the receiver.
(b) Calculate the probability of detection error Pe at the receiver.
(i.e., a sent 0 is misinterpreted as 1 at the receiver and vice versa.)
(c) Using Poisson approximation, determine the probability of more than two errors
in 12 received digits.
