TYPHOON,CYCLONE, AND HURRICANE

TYPHOON IS
DEVELOPING IN THE
NORTHWESTERN
PACIFIC . CYCLONE IS IN
THE SOUTHERN
PACIFIC. AND
NORTHERN PACIFIC IS
THE HURRICANE
WHAT IS A TYPHOON?
A Typhoon is a social phenomenon that
starts on the tropical oceans located
Northern Pacific, that has the
characteristics of low atmospheric
pressure, high winds, and heavy rainfall.
-Extremely large powerful and
destructive storm that occurs especially
in the region of the Philippines or the
China Sea.
-An area of low atmospheric pressure
surrounded by a wind system blowing in
the northern hemisphere in
counterclockwise direction.
WHAT IS TYPHOON?
-An area of low atmospheric
pressure surrounded by a wind
system blowing in the northern
hemisphere in counterclockwise
direction.
-Also called as “hurricane” in
western countries, “tai fung” in
China, and “taifu” in Japan. The
term “typhoon” is used in the
Philippines and other countries in
Asia.
WHAT IS TYPHOON?
-Heavy rainfall is often caused by
weather disturbance. The major
disturbance that the Philippines
encounter is the tropical cyclone or
also known as “bagyo”. Every year,
around 20-24 tropical cyclones
are experienced in the Philippines.

FORMATION OF TYPHOON
There are some requirements for Typhoon Two factors fuel a tropical cyclone
to establish and develop. This Includes into a full blown typhoon
Warm sea surface temperature,
1.Rapid updrafts or upward movement
Atmospheric instability, High humidity
of water vapor from the ocean due to
from lower to higher of troposphere, the fast rising warm air
Coriolis effect to develop a center,
pre-existing level of focus or disturbance, 2.Condensation of water vapor which
low vertical wind shear. releases heat to the swirling wind
PARTS OF TYPHOON
● Eye - The Center and the
calm part
● Eye Wall - Has the
strongest winds and rain.
The wind can reach the
200 miles per hour
● Rainbands - This is
spinning and contains
shower and
thunderstorms
WEATHER INSTRUMENT TO TRACK TYPHOON
Weather Surveillance Radar - It is a
long-range radar that identifies and
tracks typhoons and cloud masses at
distances of less than 400 kilometers.
The revolving antenna disk of this radar
should be installed on top of a building
that is free of physical obstructions.
WHY PH IS
TYPHOON PRONE?

Due to the location of

country it is prone with
typhoons that
sometimes cause a
massive destruction to
property. The wind and
rain are the main
responsible in doing
such thing.
TYPHOON YOLANDA
-It is a Super Typhoon that
landfall in the Philippines on
November 8, 2013 averaging
200 km/h of strong of wind.
Furthermore Typhoon Yolanda
damaged 1.1 million homes,
destroyed 33 million coconut
trees (a vital livelihood) and
destroyed the livelihoods of 5.9
million workers
PREPARATION FOR TYPHOON
● Have an emergency kit and
emergency plan for your family
● Know your surroundings
● Know the community evacuations
● Listen to News for the update on
typhoon
● Secure home by securing objects
or bring them indoors
● Turn off propane tanks
● Turn off utilities like refrigerators
● Use phone for emergency only
