2. Cách sử dụng
Diễn tả một hành động/sự việc xảy ra ở My grandmother is watching TV now.
thời điểm nói.
Diễn tả một hành động hoặc sự việc nói My mother is busy today. She is cooking.
chung đang diễn ra nhưng không nhất
thiết phải thực sự diễn ra ngay lúc nói
Diễn tả một hành động sắp xảy ra trong I’m flying to China tomorrow evening.
tương lai gần, thường diễn tả một kế
hoạch đã lên lịch sẵn
Diễn tả hành động thường xuyên lặp đi Bin is always coming to class late.
lặp lại gây ra sự bực mình hay khó chịu
cho người nói. Cách dùng này được
dùng với trạng từ “always, continually”
3. Dấu hiệu nhận biết
- Now, right now, at present, at the moment, at + mốc thời gian (at 7 o’clock).
- Các động từ đặc biệt: Look!, Watch!, Listen!, Keep silent!, Watch out!, Look
out! 

4. Qui tắc
*Cách thêm “ing”
- Động từ có tận cùng là 1 chữ “e”: Bỏ “e” rồi thêm “-ing”.
Ví dụ: write – writing, come – coming, type – typing.
- Động từ có tận cùng là 2 chữ “e”: Không bỏ “e”, thêm ing bình thường
Ví dụ: see - seeing.
- Động từ có tận cùng là “ie”: Đổi “ie” thành “y” rồi thêm “-ing”.
Ví dụ: die - dying, lie- lying.
- Động từ có 1 âm tiết, theo nguyên tắc phụ-nguyên-phụ: Nhân đôi phụ âm
cuối rồi thêm “-ing”.
Ví dụ: get – getting, stop – stopping, put – putting.
