Okay class let’s have a review about the theorems
in triangle inequalities

Will you give me those theorems?

Sir, the theorems are, Triangle

inequality theorem, Exterior
triangle inequality and the
hinge theorem and its
converse.

Very good! Give him/her 3 claps!

Now, identify the following illustrations on what

theorem is applicable

1. C

AC + AB > BC
AB + BC > AC

B. Establishing a purpose for Before we start our lesson let’s have our activity.
the lesson
Let’s play family feud!

This game we need two groups. groups 1 and 2.

Direction: You have three questions and you need

to answer it correctly by group one representative
each group dictates the answer of the whole group

State the theorem that we need to use here

1.How do we know that this length can form a

triangle? Sir, we need to used triangle
inequality theorem
a.6 cm,8cm and 10 cm

2 Given the lengths of the sides. Identify the

largest and smallest angle in each triangle Sir, the theorem here is
unequal sides theorem
M

22 18

A D

3. Given the angles of the triangle. Identify the
longest and shortest side of the triangle
A Sir, we need to use unequal
60° angles theorem

B 40° 80° C

Very good! Give him/her 3 claps

!
These theorems class, we can use to solve what is
asked to the given triangle. Therefore, in this
activity we are applying theorems in triangle
inequality, for us to satisfy the given problem in
the triangle. And that is our lesson for today!
C. Presenting examples/ Ok Class, here is the learning objective
instances of the new lesson
Will you please read

 Apply theorems on triangle inequality

and smallest angle in each triangle

A D
Let’s answer first letter A 14
Since in letter A, we have one triangle and we are
given only by sides, and we need to identify which
angle is largest and smallest angle. What theorem
that we need to apply here for us to know the
largest angle and smallest angle?
Sir, Unequal sides/ side angle
relationship

Very good class! Give him/her 3 claps!

Now, observe the illustration, which side is

longest?

Correct! Give him/her 3 claps! Sir, side PA

Which side is shortest?

Great job! Give him/her 3 claps! Sir, side LA

Now class, if PA is the longest side, will you give

me the largest angle?

Sir the largest angle is ∠L

Very good! Give him/her 3 claps!
How about the smallest angle?

Very good! Sir, ∠P

Answer letter B

The largest angle is ∠D and

Precisely! Give yourselves 3 claps! the smallest angle is ∠M

Do you have questions?

None sir!
Let’s have an Example 2

Can a triangle be constructed with sides of

lengths?

a.3cm, 7cm, and 8cm?

b.6cm,7cm, and 14cm?

Again class, what do you think is this theorem?

Very good! Sir, triangle inequality

Now, let’s see if letter A, can construct a triangle

by using triangle inequality theorem
Now, using the given lengths in letter A, will you
give me the three inequality statements
Sir, 3+7> 8

7+8> 3

Very good! Give him/her 3 claps!

3+8>7
Now, Simplify and observe if satisfy the statement
in triangle inequality theorem Sir 10>8

15>3

11>7

Do you think the given lengths of letter A can

form a triangle?
Yes sir!
Why?

Because the sum of two given

Very good! Give him/her 3 claps! lengths is greater to the third
Therefore, the given lengths in letter A can form a side of the length.
triangle

How about letter B?

Correct! No sir because 13 is less than

14 not greater than
Questions?
None sir!
Ok let’s do another example

D. Discussing new concepts Let us do this class!

and practicing new skills #1
Example 3

In BOS, BO= 8, OS= 10 and BS =X. What is

the range of possible values for BS?

8
X

O 10 S

In this example were given by two sides BO= 8

and OS=10 and for our BS is unknown.

Again, class to find BS, what theorem that we

need to apply here in further to get the unknown
side?
Sir, we need to apply triangle
Very good class! inequality theorem

Given by these lengths of sides will you give me

the three inequality statements by using triangle
inequality theorem?

8+10> X

8+X> 10

Very good class! 10 + X> 8

By simplifying the inequality statements, will you

give me the first statement of X?

Good job! Or we can say as X<18. Sir, 18>X

What else?

X>2

X> -2
Very good!

In this case class, we have X> -2, and we know

negative numbers is always less than to all positive
numbers. So, we can start at X>2.

Now class, by analyzing the two statements which

is X>2. And X<18.

When we say X>2, will you give me numbers that

are greater than 2?
Sir, 3,4,5,6,7…
Correct!
And when we say X<18, will you give me those
numbers that is less than 18?
Sir, 17,16,15,14…

Very good class! Give him/her 3 claps!

Now class, what do you think is the possible range

of X values? For this statement X>2. And X<18.
Sir, the possible range of X
values are from 3 to 17.
Very good class!

Therefore, we can say that the range of BS is 3 to

17. And class, you can use one of the X values
from 3 to 17 and use triangle inequality theorem to
prove that the possible lengths of BS is from 3 to
17 and must be greater than to its third side.

Do you have questions?

None sir!
All right!
E. Finding practical For me to know what you have already learned.
