From first wrestling camp to first tournament title. Madison
Wrestling Camp this past August. Talk about coming a long
“Madi” Lamb picks up a pin Friday evening at the 27th way in a short time to win her first tournament! Rounding

OBITUARY
Harold Wentland
Harold J. Wentland,
age 79, of Glasgow,
Montana passed away
on December 7, 2022, in
Glasgow, Montana.
Harold was born
in Jamestown, North
Dakota on January 30,
1943, to Fred and Margaret (Burkehardt) Wentland. He
graduated from school and was attending Jamestown
College when he met the love of his life, Dolores
Carrignan. They married on September 18, 1966, in
Bozeman- where Harold was pursuing his master’s
degree in Biology.
They raised two children; Eric was born in 1970
and Nikki was born in 1972. Harold worked as a
Biologist for the Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department-
first in Glendive and later in Glasgow. Dolores suffered
cardiac arrest in 2016 and Harold faithfully cared for
her until her passing on April 15, 2018.
Harold was preceded in death by his beloved wife,
Dolores and his son, Eric. He is survived by his daughter,
Nicole Peterson of Billings and grandchildren, Hailey
Peterson and Joshua Wentland.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on
Thursday, December 15, 2022, at the Bell Mortuary
with Pastor Scott Kiehn Officiating.. Refreshments will
follow. Harold will be inurned in Highland Cemetery in
a private ceremony.

Scotties earn a split in Red Lodge

The trip to Red Lodge for the Annual Woodden
Memorial Tournament wasn’t too bad for the
Glasgow Scotties boys basketball team. Coach Paul
Yoakam and his squad was hoping for a sweep, but
they took the next best thing, a weekend with a split.
Friday night the Scotties dropped a game to the
host Rams, 57-54, then came from behind to defeat
a good team from Sweetgrass County, Big Timber,
49-47 Saturday night.
Glasgow (1-2, 0-1) held a six point lead, 28-22,
at the half against the Sheepherders. Senior Keigan
Ingram scored 12 points in the half with nine
coming in the first quarter. But the Scotties found
themselves trailing by two, 36-34, heading into the
fourth quarter. Trevor Mosness scored eight points
for Big Timber. The Scotties took care of business,
outsourcing the Herders 15-11 behind Wyatt Babb’s
11 points. The sophomore drilled three 3-pointers.
Against the Rams, the team battled to a 22-all
first half, but Red Lodge came out hot in the third
quarter to take a 41-33 lead into the final period.
The Scotties did outscore the Rams 20-16 in the
fourth.
Babb and Ingram had an outstanding weekend
for the Scotties. Babb and Ingram scored 17 points
each in the Red Lodge game. Ingram scored nine
in the first half and Babb eight. Ingram also went 3
for 4 from the foul line. Riley Smith and KJ Ingram
added seven each, and Toryn Richards five. Smith
hit the boards for 10 rebounds and Babb had eight.
Red Lodge (1-0) was led by Jacob Stewart with a
game-high 22 points, 12 coming in the second half.
Babb finished with three 3-pointers in leading
the Scotties with 21 points. Keigan Ingram was close
behind with 20 points, including a three-pointer and
3 of 6 from the line. Ashton Potter added six points
and Smith two. Smith, Potter, Babb, and Keigan
Ingram had six boards each,
Kade Gardiner paced the Herders with 17
points, 11 in the second half.
The Scotties hit the road this weekend, taking
on two Class A clubs. Friday night the Scotties take
on Sidney and Saturday they’re in Glendive. The
Eagles are 0-2 and the Red Devils 1-1.
Maybe the Scotties can bring a busload of snow
home with them!

Draft grizzly bear management plan
FWP seeks public comment
Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is seeking public
comment on a draft plan and environmental impact
statement to guide the long-term management and
conservation of grizzly bears across the state.
“For decades, FWP staff have worked with federal,
tribal, and local partners, along with communities
and landowners, to recover and then manage grizzly
bear populations across much of Montana,” said FWP
Director Hank Worsech. “This plan will put that
experience into action and provide a framework for
comprehensive management of grizzly bears in the
state and ensure the populations remain sustainable and
healthy into the future.”
The plan was informed by existing bear plans and
conservation strategies for parts of the state, the federal
recovery plan and the work of the Grizzly Bear Advisory
Council, appointed under the previous administration
in 2019.
The new plan would replace two existing plans –
those for western Montana and for southwest Montana
– with one statewide plan in which FWP commits to
maintaining the long-term viability of grizzly bears
while prioritizing human safety. The statewide plan will
serve as a framework for the management of grizzly
bears now and into the future.
Montana has petitioned the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service to delist grizzly bears in the Northern
Continental Divide Ecosystem and supports Wyoming’s
petition to delist grizzly bears in the Greater Yellowstone
ecosystem, where they have surpassed recovery goals.

“Although grizzly bears are federally listed under
the Endangered Species Act, having a plan like this
in place will lay out Montana’s vision and general
framework for management of grizzly bears, whether
or not they are listed,” said Director Worsech.
The draft plan will guide management statewide,
with particular focus on areas with documented
grizzly bear presence, as well as in those places where
they are expected to expand. The draft plan addresses
how bears will be managed outside of federal recovery
zones, including connectivity areas between the zones.
The EIS addresses potential environmental impacts of
implementing the plan.
To answer questions about the draft plan and EIS,
FWP will host a statewide Zoom webinar on Dec. 15,
from 6 to 8 p.m. Details on how to join the webinar will
be posted on the FWP website closer to that date.
The draft plan and EIS will be open for public
comment until Jan. 5. To review the plan and comment,
go online to https://fwp.mt.gov/aboutfwp/public-
comment-opportunities/grizzly-bear-management-
plan. To comment by mail, send to Wildlife Division,
Grizzly Bear Plan and EIS, P.O. Box 200701, Helena,
MT 59620. Comments can also be emailed to fwpwld@
mt.gov.
Once the comment period is concluded, FWP
staff will review the comments, make adjustments
to the plan and EIS as necessary and then Director
Worsech will issue a record of decision, in accordance
with the Montana Environmental Policy Act. The
department will then present the plan to the Fish and
Wildlife Commission for their review and potential
endorsement.

Spoofing Scam!
Knudsen warns of scam callers
posing as law enforcement
Attorney General Austin Knudsen is warning
Montanans of scammers attempting to obtain personal
information from unsuspecting individuals over the
phone by claiming to be law enforcement officials. The
fraudsters are disguising their phone number, so on caller
ID it appears the number is coming from a legitimate law
enforcement office, which is also referred to as “spoofing.”
Once on the phone with an individual, the scammer
will threaten the victim with outstanding warrants or
investigations to try to obtain personal information, like
bank account numbers. Other times, to supposedly clear
the charges against them, the victim is ordered to obtain
reloadable debit cards or other forms of payment, then
provide the card numbers to the scammer.
An Anaconda woman recently shared her story of
losing her life savings to scammers claiming to be law
enforcement.
“Always be on high alert for scammers looking to
take advantage of you. Especially during the holidays,
more criminals seem to be looking to make a quick buck,”
Attorney General Knudsen said. “If anyone asks you for
personal information over the phone do not provide it
unless you can verify who you are speaking to and always
trust your gut.”
The DOJ’s Office of Consumer Protection encourages
Montanans who are targeted by these scammers to either
hang up the phone, or, if they think a law enforcement
agency may be trying to get a hold of them but they are not
sure of the legitimacy of the call, take the following steps:

Last year, the Office of Consumer Protection
fielded 945 scam complaints and successfully saved
Montanans from losing more than $1.3 million,
including $869,600 that was recovered for Montanans
who were victimized by scammers and $465,579 in
prevented loss for consumers who called inquiring
about whether they were being scammed.
