We hinted, she responded!

In Friday’s Buzz concerning the beautiful sunrise taken by Jacky Dyrland of Glentana,
Montana, we hinted that she might send us the first snow photo of the season as we knew
that they were in for some snowfall, according the NWS forecast. And they got it, about
three-to-four inches, according to Jacky. This photo was from around 7:40 this morning
as she was “crawling” her way to Scobey. Also in the photo is not only the treacherous
Highway 248, but the ongoing Dry Prairie Rural Water project between Richland and
Peerless. “The Water Boys might have the day off,” she speculated. She would also like to
give a shout out to NorVal Electric, as they lost power around 8:30 last night but the NorVal
crew pulled an all-nighter and had them juiced back up before six o’clock this morning!
Whoop! Whoop! Football playoffs begin Friday

The post season for high school football begins
Friday night with the Class AA teams squaring off.
The regular season wrapped up last week with some
conference championships being won. In AA the Helena
Capital Bruins defeated crosstown rivals Helena High,
13-3. The win gives the Bruins home field advantage
throughout the playoffs. And, it’s possible that the two
Capital City teams could battle for the state championship.
Capital (9-0) and Helena High (7-2) are the top two
seeds from the West, while Bozeman (7-2) and Billings
West (5-3) are the top two from the East. Bozeman
defeated West 21-13 for the East title. All four will get
first round byes.
First round games in the AA are all Friday night
with Glacier (6-3), the fourth seed from the West, taking
on the fifth seed from the East Billings Senior (3-6).
The third seed out of the East is Gallatin (7-2), hosting
the sixth seed from the West Missoula Big Sky (3-6).
No. 4 Great Falls (6-3) hosts No. 5 Butte (4-5) and No. 3
Missoula Sentinel (7-2) hosts No. 6 Great Falls CMR (3-
6).
CLASS A — First round in Class A has No. 4 West
Columbia Falls (6-2) hosting No. 5 East Miles City (5-
4), No. 3 East Laurel (7-2) tracking on No. 7 West Libby
(3-6), No. 4 East Havre (6-3) vs. No. 5 West Whitefish
(6-3) and No. 3 West Dillon (7-1) against No. 6 West
Frenchtown (6-3). Hamilton (9-0) is the top seed from
the West and Polson (8-0) the second, while Fsrgus (9-0)
got the top seed from the East and Billings Central (8-1)
the second. These four got first round byes.
CLASS B — Glasgow (7-2) has the second seed from
the North and will host the No. 3 from the East, Baker
(4-4). Glasgow won the first meeting earlier in Baker.
The Dawgs are in the same bracket with No. 1 Bigfork
(8-0). The Western B champs will host Manhattan (6-3).
A Glasgow win and Bigfork win, wound send the Dawgs
to Bigfork. Now if Manhattan would upset the Vikings,
then Glasgow would host a second round game.
Other first round games in Class B have No. 1 South
Townsend (6-2) hosting No. 4 West Missoula Loyola
(4-5), No. 2 East Shepherd (5-4) against No. 3 North
Fairfield (4-4), No. 1 East Huntley Project (9-0) vs. No,. 4
North Cut Bank (2-6), No. 2 West Florence (7-2) vs. No.
3 South Whitehall (6-2), No. 1 North Malta (8-1) against
No. 3 East Red Lodge (3-5) and No. 2 South Jefferson (6-
3) taking on No. 3 West Eureka 6-3.
Class C — Culbertson enjoyed its best season,
winning the Eastern C with a 7-1 record. The Cowboys
will host the fourth seed from the Central, Lone ek (4-
3). Other 8-man games have No. 1 Central Flint Creek
(9-0) vs. No. 3 South Park City (4-3), No. 1 North Belt
(8-0) against No. 3 West Charo (5-3), No. 2 South Forsyth
(4-2) meeting No. 2 West Superiore (8-1), No. 1 South
Joliet (7-1) vs. No. 3 Central Cascade (5-3), No. 2 East
Fairview (6-2) vs. No. 3 North Fort Benton (5-2), No. 2
Central Ennis (7-1) vs. No. 2 North Chinook (7-1), and
No. 1 West St. Ignatius (8-0) vs. No. 3 East Circle (5-3).
Froid-Lake ((6-3) has won five straight games after
going 1-3 in the first half of th\e 6-man season. The two-
time defending state champs will host Denton-Geyser-
Stanford-Geraldine (6-2) Saturday in Medicine Lake.
A win would give the Redhawks another home game
next week.White Sulphur Springs (4-5), No. 1 South
Broadview-Lavina (8-0) vs. No. 3 North North Star 5-3),
No. 2 North Valier (7-2) vs. No. 2 West Noxon (6-2), No.
1 West Hot Springs (6-2) vs. No. 3 Central Chester-J-I
(5-2), No. 2 East Richey-Lambert (4-5) vs. No. 3 South
Bridger (7-2), No. 2 Central Highwood (4-4) vs. No. 2
South Custer-Hysham-Melstone (7-2) and No. 1 North
Big Sandy (9-0) vs. No. 3 East Savage (6-2).
Remember how well Savage started the season,
racking up the points and winning games. The Warriors
ran into Froid-Lake and Richey-Lambert, both handing
Savage conference losses.
Broadview-Lavina thumped Custer-Hysham-
Melstone 59-26 to win the Southern C title. St. Ignatius
shutout Superior 58-0 for the Western C 8-man crown.
The race to the 8-man and 6-man championships
should be interesting. Flint Creek and Belt could meet in
the second round.

In Friday’s NWS forecast, the North Country was
expected to receive a few inches of accumulative snow
while we Southerners here in Glasgow were expected
to get a bit of snow mixed with rain but less than a
half an inch of accumulation. Here’s what Jan Falkner
came out to find this morning! Forecasts are just that
when they’re a couple of days out, and all of us living
in northeast Montana know all about that! And while
southwest Montana got pelted with anywheres from six
inches to well over a foot of snow, Billings got zippo.
