Learning Outcomes – Second term
By the end of the academic term learners will be able to:
❖ understand that different rocks have different physical properties and observable features.
❖ compare and contrast the properties and observable features of different rocks.
❖ identify different rocks using research, by comparing to samples and/or from information about their properties (such as a key).
❖ describe how sedimentary, igneous and metamorphic rocks are formed.
❖ understand that the formation of different types of rocks affects whether they may contain fossils.
❖ explain that over time rocks can be broken down into smaller pieces by processes such as weathering.
❖ understand that soil contains small parts of rocks and organic matter.
❖ compare and contrast the different characteristics of soils such as colour, texture and drainage.
❖ identify different soils using research, by comparing to samples and/or from information about their properties such as a key.
❖ describe magnets as having two poles, known as North and South.
❖ distinguish between the terms ‘attract’ and ‘repel’.
❖ predict whether two magnets will attract or repel each other, depending on which poles are facing.
❖ understand that some forces need contact between two objects, but magnetic forces can act at a distance.
❖ identify materials that are magnetic and those that are non-magnetic and apply this to practical uses of magnets.
❖ understand that we need light in order to see things and that dark is the absence of light
❖ understand that light comes from a source and know some sources of light
❖ understand that some materials block light and are Described as being opaque
❖ explain that, although some objects can reflect light, they are not light sources
❖ understand that, when light from a source is blocked by an opaque object, a shadow can form that is the same shape as the object
❖ understand patterns in the way that the size of shadows change
❖ distinguish between the terms transparent, translucent and opaque

Second Term – Jan-June 2022 –23 15weeks (15X5=75 lessons)

(5 lessons per week) (Face to Face)


General Instructions Exploring Science 2:
• Prepare a power point presentation for every lesson. (Revision Purpose)
• Relevant Scientific vocabulary will be done during the lesson.
• Question/Answers from the textbook will be done during the lesson.
• Quick Quiz to be done once the whole unit is finished.
• Relevant workbook pages will be done in class.
• Answers to be written by the learners themselves, only key words/terms to be shared on board. Copying the answers from the book or
dictating the answers to the learners is strictly forbidden.
• Try to avoid showing Book/workbook on the screen in hand during the lesson. Screen share can be used for this purpose.
• Utilise teacher’s resource book for the correct answers to the textbook questions.
• Investigations must be done in lab.
• Different online learning tools are given in teacher’s resources along with their tutorials, to be used in your class.
• Relevant resources with the topics and grades are given in the Teacher’s resource channel on MS Teams.
• Mid unit assessment will be conducted after the relevant topics are done.
• End of unit Assessment will be conducted once the whole unit is finished and revised.

❖ describe magnets as having two poles, known as North and South.
❖ distinguish between the terms ‘attract’ and ‘repel’.
❖ predict whether two magnets will attract or repel each other, depending on which poles are facing.
❖ understand that some forces need contact between two objects, but magnetic forces can act at a distance.
