GAS LAW
( BOYLE'S LAW, CHARLE'S LAW,AND GAY-
LUSSAC'S LAW
BOYLE'S LAW
Robert Boyle an Anglo-Irish chemist in 1662
stated that the pressure exerted by a gas is
inversely proportional to the volume occupied
by it at a constant mass and temperature.
FORMULA: P1 V1 = P2 V2

CHARLE'S LAW

Jacques Alexandre César Charles was a

French inventor, scientist, mathematician,
and balloonist.
He stated that if the volume increases, the
temperature will increase

FORMULA: V1/ T1= V2/T2

GAY LUSSAC'S LAW

Joseph Louis Gay-Lussac was a

French chemist and physicist
Gay-Lussac’s law states the
temperature and pressure of an
ideal gas are directly
proportional, assuming constant
mass and volume.

FORMULA:

P1/ T1 = P2/T2
COMBINED LAW
An amalgation of Boyle's law, Charles's law,and Gay-
Lussac's law , the combined law comes into a being. Gas
pressure and volume are calculated by taking the ratio of
their products and calculating their absolute
temperature. FORMULA FOR THE
COMBINED GAS LAW
The combined gas law stated mathematically as
PV/T=K
Where P denotes pressure
T - temperature
V- volume, and
K- for constant

The law can be stated as follows when two chemicals are compared in two
conditions:
P1 V1/T1 =P2 V2/ T2
P2 stands for initial pressure
V2 -initial volume
T2- TEMPERATURE at start
P1-stands for final pressure
V1- final volume
T1-final temperature
Example
On the surface of the earth, a balloon filled with helium will
have a specific pressure, temperature, and volume. If you let go
of the balloon it will soar then temperature and air start to
diminish as you get higher in the air.
Air pressure - the force exerted by air, whether compressed or
unconfined, on any surface in contact with it.
Temperature - is a physical quantity that expresses quantitatively the
perceptions of hotness and coldness.
Volume of gas - defined as the space occupied by the gaseous particles at
standard temperature and pressure conditions

Molecule -a group of two or more atoms held together by attractive

forces known as chemical bonds
PROBLEM

The gas has a 5L initial volume and a 3L final volume. Given an initial temperature of 273 K, a final
temperature of 200 K, and a starting pressure of 25 kPa, calculate the gas's final pressure.

Solution:
P2=25 kPa according to the specified parameters
V1 = 3L, V2 = 5L
273K = T1
T2 = 200 kelvin
P2V2/T2 = P1V1/T1, according to the combined gas law.

We get 25 x 5 / 273 = P1 x 3 / 200 by substituting in the formula.

As a result, P1 = 30.525 kPa.
