Equipment  empty packages of assorted products:( milk, cereals, sardines, meat loaf),
 empty bottles and boxes of over-the-counter medicine/drugs (those that can be bought
without a doctor’s prescription:(cough syrup, pain reliever, ointment, toothache drops),
 wrappers of detergents/soaps, empty containers with copies of labels of disinfectants
and pesticide

4.1 Introductory 1. Review:

5 minutes 2. Introduce the new lesson:


There are materials at home which are manufactured products. Most of these are sold in
plastic packages, boxes, glass containers or tin cans.

When you buy these products, do you bother to read the labels on its package?
4.2 Activity A. Advance preparation (to be done a day before the science class)
Prepare the materials needed for the activity.
B. During the science class:
15 minutes 1. Group the pupils into three.
2. Provide the materials to each group.
3. Set norms to follow during activity. Remind the pupils about precautionary measures
in handling the materials.
4. Have the pupils work on Lesson 6: LM Activity 1- “What is the Importance of
Reading product Labels? See LM page 18.
5. Remind each group to present their output in class.

4. 3 Analysis  What information are given by the labels of the products?


7 minutes  What are the manufacturing dates and expiry dates of each of each of the products?
 Do all the labels provide enough information about the food products?
 If you will compare the labels of the food products to the labels of dugs/medicines and
housekeeping products, what similarities will you find?
