examples/instances of As a 200-,eter running event specialist, Usain Bolt of Jamica broke the 100-meter world
mark for the third time during the World mark for the third time during the World War
the new lesson
Outdoor Championship in Berlin on August 16, 2009 finishing at about 10.44 m/s.
Calculate the amount of time it took Bolt to run the 100-meter event. To find time, divide
the distance by speed. Refer to the formula below.
T=d/s
t- is the amount of time taken for the event
d- is the distance, which is 100 m
s- is the speed which is 10.44 m/s
You can make an estimate by rounding off the speed from 10.44 m/s to 10 m/s. Then
divide 100 m by this speed.
100 / 10=10
Hence, Usain Bolt was able to finish the 100- meter in about 10 s.
You can compute for the actual time to check if the estimate is reasonable. Substitute
the values in the formula on the previous page.

T= d/s=100m/10.44m/s= 9.579 s
You can see that Usaine Bolt finished the 100-meter event in 9.579 s.

examples/instances of the To solve for the answer to the problem, you need to find the speed of Luis. The phrase
“how fast” means speed.
new lesson
Since Luis takes 20 s to run 100 m, you have to find the length that Luis runs in one
second. Since 100/20=5/1, Luis runs at a speed (s) 5m in 1 second or 5 meters per
