Congee or conjee is a type of rice porridge or gruel popular in many Asian countries, especially East Asia. When
eaten as plain rice congee, it is most often served with side dishes. When additional ingredients, such as meat, fish,
and flavorings, are added while preparing the congee, it is most often served as a meal on its own, especially for the
ill. Names for congee are as varied as the style of its preparation. Despite its many variations, it is usually a thick
porridge of rice largely disintegrated after prolonged cooking in water.
While congee is a staple breakfast dish in China, it is called congee only in Guangdong, and is known by other local
as "white porridge".

A.Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson
Drill
Mental Computation: Give me a number that is
a) one more than 9
b) one more than 99
c) one more than 999
What happens to 9 when you add 1?
Review on place value and the relationship of each digit to another digit in a given number.
B.Establishing a purpose for the lesson
Ask the pupils the electrical appliances they have at home. Elicit from them which of these consume the most
electricity.
Ask the pupils how much they pay for their monthly electric bill. Get some reactions. How would you help lessen
your electric consumption? Why?
Let pupils form a circle.
Let them move clockwise then counterclockwise.
Do the activity a few times.
C.Presenting Examples/Instances of new lesson
Present the problem posted in Engage part and give enough time to the pupils to understand the problems.
Mr. Dela Cruz is computing his monthly electrical consumption. Based on his electric bill, last month he was able to
consume 00125 kWh. When he checked his digital electric meter, the reading is 00199 kWh. How many kilowatt-
hours did Mr. Dela Cruz consume this month?
Observe the meter readings below (TG p.302)
For us to get the amount of electricity that Mr. Dela Cruz consumed, subtract the previous electric meter reading
from the present electric meter reading.
00199-00125=74 kWhSo, Mr. Dela Cruz consumed 74 kWh of electricity for this month. Explain the steps in
reading electric meter. (Mathletes txbk p. 303)
Group Activity: Read and interpret the dials on the electric meter below.
