Detailed Lesson Plan in SCIENCE 6

I. Objectives:
At the end of a 50 minute period, 100% of the pupils will get at least 75% proficiency level
and will be able to:

a. Describe/define a lever.

b. Identify the parts of a lever.

c. Explain how a lever work.

d. Give importance on some lever used at home by taking good care of them

II. Subject Matter: SIMPLE MACHINE (LEVER)

1. Drill (5 minutes)
Before we are going to start our lesson for today, let us
first play a game. I will group you into 4, this group will
be your group throughout the activity. And every
activity you should gain a star. The group that could
This game would surely excite you and look forward to
learn more up to the end of our lesson. Are you ready?
This game is entitled “Guess the Word” are you familiar
with this game?

Before we proceed to our game proper, who can give me

some standards in doing group activity?
Yes, ma’am.

Okay, very good! Now are you all ready?

ENGLISH (Picture TELL)

Identify the picture and tell if it is simple machine or not.

What is simple machines?
How many simple machines are there?
What are those simple machines?
It seems that you have already master our past lesson, are you
ready with the next lesson?

3. Motivation (5 minutes)
This time I have magic Box. Let us identify the things
inside our magic box and you also tell me what’s the
use/ purpose of this materials.

Did you use these simple machines at home?

Do you want to know more about them?

UNLOCKING OF DIFFICULTIES

1. Simple Machine any device that makes work easier and

faster by reducing the effort or force used in doing the work.

2. Effort -A force that is applied at one point on the lever in order

to move an object

3. Fulcrum- the point of the lever capable of rotating

4.EFFORT ARM- distance from the fulcrum to the point of

effort.

5. RESISTANCE ARM -distance from the fulcrum to the

load.

B. Developmental Activities
ENGAGE
1. Presentation
Today we will discuss about simple machines
specifically levers and our objectives are;

a. Describe/define a lever.
b. Identify the parts of a lever.
c. Explain how a lever work.
d. Give importance on some lever used at home
by taking good care of them

For us to meet our objectives let us sing a song first. I

want every day to follow the song. Are you ready? Let us sing
the song “ LEVER lover”

What is the song all about?

What are the lever mention in the song?

Did you have them at home?

Do you want to know more about these lever?

To know more about lever let’s do some activity.

(Group the class into 4) -It is all about lever

Let us read the standards in doing the activity.

-answers vary

EXPLORE

I. Problem: What affects the action of lever?

II. Materials: meter stick, a shoe box filled with pebbles and a
wooden black.
III. Procedure:
1.Arrange the materials as shown below Standard in doing group activity
1. Cooperate with your group mates.
2. Use quite voices.
3. Choose your leader, reporter and
secretary.
4. Observe CLAYGO

2. Measure the distance from the fulcrum to the resistance arm

and from the fulcrum to the effort arm.
Record your measurement .Push down the effort arm Can you
lift the box easily?
3. Repeat the activity twice. Move the fulcrum a little nearer the
effort arm each time. Record your measurement for both
activities.
QUESTIONS
1. What is lever?
2. What are the parts of lever?
3. What have you observe from the activity?
In which arrangement do you exert less effort to lift the box?
-When the effort arm is longer than the resistance arm
-When the effort arm is shorter than the resistance arm
-When the effort arm and resistance arm are on the same
distance

Now, let us know if your answers are correct! Let us watch

the video about lever.

Did you understand the video?

What is lever?

Standard in watching video

1. Listen and watch attentively
2. Do not make unnecessary noise
What are the three locations of lever? 3. Take down notes

 The lever multiplies the effort force, creating a larger output

force that acts on the load. The multiplied amount of force -A lever is a bar that is free to rotate
depends on the distances of the point of effort and the load from around a point. The point where it rotates
the fulcrum. is called the fulcrum.Every lever has two
 In any lever, the effort is less whenever its distance from the arms, the resistance arm and the effort
fulcrum is increased, and the distance of the load from the arm.
fulcrum is decreased. By pushing farthest away from the
fulcrum, less effort is needed to lift the load. The effort needed 1. The fulcrum or fixed point
is further reduced if the load is placed nearer to the fulcrum. 2. the point of effort or where work is done
on the lever; and
3. the load which is being moved.
What are the three classes of lever?

Levers are of three classes, depending on the relative positions

of the fulcrum, effort, and load (resistance).
 A First Class Lever has its fulcrum located between
effort and load. The effort and resistance move in
opposite directions.
Example: scissors, and pliers.

There are three kinds of lever, the first

class lever, second class lever and the third
class lever.

 A Second Class Lever has the load between effort and

fulcrum. The effort and resistance move in the same
direction. Examples of class 2 levers are wheelbarrow,
bottle opener, and nutcracker.

 A Third Class Lever has the effort between load and the
fulcrum. Effort and resistance move in the same
direction. Tweezers, and tongs are examples of class 3
levers.

Values Integration
Did you usually see these levers at home?

How did you use them?

How these levers helps you?

Did you take good care of simple machines/ lever at home? And
how?

Alright! Everything that surrounds us it maybe things, animals

or human, we should take good care of them so that they will
stay longer.
