In today’s discussion, we will identify the
different elements of weather and the
difference between southwest and
northeast monsoon.
Elements of Weather
Temperature - is the hotness or coldness
of the air around us. It waves according to
the
elevation, location of the place and time
of the day. The higher the elevation, the
lower the
temperature. It also differs according to
the latitude or location of place in the
globe. Places near the equator receive the
direct rays of the sun that is why they
experience high
temperatures. Scientists use the
thermometer to measure temperature.
Below are words that describe the seasons
in the Philippines. Choose
the words that describe dry and wet season
and write them on their respective boxes.
The Philippines has two seasons, namely:
wet or rainy season
and the dry season. The of these seasons

Wet season or rainy season
is characterized by heavy rainfall

comes from May to December but the

Weather is the condition of the
atmosphere in a particular
place at a particular time. It affects your
day-to-day activities and
Air Pressure - is the amount of force
exerted by air on Earth’s surface. It can
vary from one
place to another. The temperature of the
place, water vapor, in the atmosphere and
the
elevation affect the density of the air.
Barometer is used to measure air pressure.
Humidity - is a measure of moisture
present in the air. It may vary from place
to place. It is
affected by temperature. An indication
that humidity is high is when our body
feels warm and
sticky. Psychrometer and hygrometer are
used to measure relative humidity. Clouds
– are tiny droplets of water or ice crystals
up in the atmosphere. They are formed
as warm air rises and cools.
Precipitation – is usually formed when
clouds reach the thickness of more than 1
kilometer.
Rain is a liquid precipitation while hail or
sleet is a solid precipitation.
Wind – is moving air. It is caused by the
unequal heating of the Earth’s surface.
Near earth
surface, wind speed near the ground has
an average range from 8 to 24 km/hr.
Wind velocity
can be measured using an anemometer.
Southwest Monsoon
Blows from the West Philippine Sea into
the heated continental interior. It is locally
known as Habagat. It comes from the

"Cloudy" or "cool and dry" or "warm and
humid" or rainy" or
"stormy".
