Do you know that these are actually what

make up a story? We will now talk about it
today.

The Elements of the Story.

ELEMENTS OF THE STORY

Story elements are the story’s different
parts, such as Title, character/s, setting,
plot, and theme.

Let us know these story elements so we

can analyze our story “Black Beauty.”

Title. It tells us directly what the story is all

about.
Titles are usually written with the first letter
of each word CAPITALIZED.

That is how the title of our story “Black

Beauty” is being written. The first letter of
each important word is capitalized and so
is the story title “The Baker’s Neighbor”.
However, some story titles are also written
in all capital letters just like this one “GAME
OF STARS”.

Character/s. The people, animals, or other

creatures in the story.

Characters refer to the people, animals, or

any creatures found in the story.

In the story that we read, can you identify Horse

the characters?

Who else, there are other people and Squire Gordon

animals in the story right? Give one. Farmer Grey
Mr. James
Merrylegs and Ginger
Mr. John

Who is Squire Gordon in the story? The one who bought Black horse.

Brilliant!

How about Farmer Grey? He is the master of Black Beauty.

Awesome! How about Mr. James? He is the head groom.

Who are Merrylegs and Ginger? Merrylegs is the one next to Black Beauty’s
stall and he is kind while Ginger is not. He is
so arrogant.

Lastly, who is Mr. John? Mr. John is the head coach man.
Very good. It seems that you fully
understand what character is.

Setting. This is where and when the story

takes place. It is a place and a certain time
story that happened.

How about in our story “Black Beauty”. can

you tell me when and where the story
happened?
The story happens in the field, one morning.
Yes, you are brilliant! In the field, one
morning because Mr. James got Black
Beauty after breakfast.

That is one way of analyzing the setting.

Let’s continue with the Plot. It consists of

several events.

It has the beginning, the middle, and the

end event. It contains the big moments for
the action parts of the story from the start,
middle, and ending.

So, let’s recall our story “Black Beauty”.

How did it start, what happened next, and
how it ended?

So, how did our story start?

Mr. James got Black beauty from Farmer

Grey to deliver the horse to Squire Gordon.

Awesome!

How about the middle event of our story? Squire Gordon asked Mr. john to ride with
Black Beauty and inform him how it goes.
Very good!

And now, how did our story end? Squire Gordon tried out Black Beauty. He
rides with him and got comfortable and had
a pleasant ride. He and his wife decided to
name the horse Black Beauty.

You’re right! Is it a happy ending or a sad Happy ending!

ending?

Let us have the last part.

Theme. It refers to the broad idea,
message, or lesson that is imparted to the
readers by a written text.

Often, the theme of the story is a brought

message about life.

So how about in our story, what lesson can Love and value all the animals and treat
we get from it or let us say the theme? them as a family.

That was excellent!

So, that is how we analyze story elements

in a particular story.

Another way of analyzing story elements is

through the use of a graphic organizer.
What is a graphic organizer?

A graphic organizer is a visual and graphic

display that depicts the relationships
between facts, terms, and or ideas within a
learning task. Graphic organizers are also
sometimes referred to as knowledge maps,
concept maps, story maps, cognitive
organizers, advance organizers, or concept
diagrams.

This is an example of a graphic organizer.
