Ethos 01

02
Ethos is a Greek word that means character.
The first aspect of ethos is establishing your authority to 03

communicate to the audience about the topic at hand.

04
Ethos is a component of persuasion and argumentation in
which a speaker demonstrates their trustworthiness, 05

expertise, and moral character. Ethos may be used in writing 06

as well as public speaking.
01
Pathos 02

03
Pathos is Greek for suffering and experience. Empathy, sympathy and
pathetic are derived from pathos. Pathos helps to balance out ethos by 04
offering additional emotional resonance. Your argument will be better served
if you communicate its moral value and relate to the reader through your 05
previous experience utilizing emotive language. When there is an emotional
tie, it is easier to connect. Pathos in the communication model enables the 06
speaker to connect with the audience through diverse emotions such as anger,
grief, happiness, confidence, and so on.

Logos 02

03

Logos is to appeal to logic by relying on the knowledge of 04

the audience and providing proof to back your point. The
term logos refers to a logical appeal. When based in 05
credibility, or ethos, logos is most powerful.
06
Demonstrating relevant experience or information builds
goodwill with the reader and leads them to the same
logical conclusion.
