Notes of Meeting of July 18, 2013 Chris Orban called the meeting to order at 5:38 p.m. in the citys Northside Neigborhood Pride Center. Others attending were R. Anthonio Barno, Joyce Hughes, Kimberly Golden, Sheila Billingslea-Moser, Isom Nivins, Officer Steve Smith, and Steve Sterrett. Mr. Orban showed Martin Westons Bike Safe, Bike Smart video. Joyce Hughes confirmed that Mr. Weston will show the video at the Weinland Park Community Civic Association meeting on July 24. Mr. Orban asked if the equipment would be available to show the video at the National Night Out event and the neighborhood festival. Mr. Orban asked Ms. Hughes to release the funds to pay Mr. Weston for his work on the video. Mr. Orban said he went to a training session for the restorative justice program several weeks ago. The juvenile court doesnt expect to have a lot of cases from Weinland Park, but this is a pilot project and is the first in Ohio. The estimate is eight cases per year. The restorative justice panel meetings in Weinland Park are being scheduled at 6 p.m. on the third Thursday of the month, so the business of the Safety and Mobility Committee can be done at 5:30 p.m. and then, when necessary, have the restorative justice panel meet. So far, three Weinland Park residents are serving on the panel (Mr. Orban, Omar Elhagmusa, and Kevin Miller, pastor of Grace Baptist Church), as well as a couple of persons from Victorian Village. The committee members confirmed that Weinland Park will celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, August 6, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the shelter house in the park behind the elementary school. The neighborhood festival planning committee will meet on July 25 and will plan the details of National Night Out. Ms. Hughes asked Mr. Sterrett to check on the cost of having tshirts made for the event. Ms. Hughes said there is $500 budgeted to cover costs for the event. Kimberly Golden said she has a catalogue of items that could be purchased in bulk and distributed at the event. She will look into Cheryls Cookies donating cookies for the event. She also suggested that information about the citys curfew for juveniles be distributed. Steve Sterrett distributed a two-page written summary of a public meeting on public safety issues in the northern part of the University District. The meeting was July 10 and was prompted by an unsolved murder in that area. The summary contains useful crime prevention tips. Committee members engaged in a general discussion of public safety in Weinland Park. Mr. Orban adjourned the meeting at 6:45 p.m.
