The Deputy Prime Minister described the recent intention of the

rep for Kota Alam Shah to give up his seat as an act of abusing
democracy.

The arbitrary and summary manner in which the government dealt

with critics and minority opposition figures is the real abuse
of democracy. The public did not elect you to provide you or the
BN with unlimited powers.

Rescind the ISA laws. Stop arresting the opposition or those

people belonging to the minority communities all at merely a
moment's whim and at one single official's discretion.

The rep wanted to give up his seat because he has been detained
under the ISA laws which meant detention without trial and for
a length of time solely determined by the government.

Detention without trial should only be for those who have been
caught carrying or using dangerous weapons in public and for
those who inflicted grievous hurt while committing a crime and
the victims somehow could not give evidence or aid the deputy
public prosecutor to force a conviction in court.

Not for those who criticise the government or those who report
the wrongdoings of the BN ruling class.

The DPM has been known to have uttered unsavoury remarks against
the minority communities in times past and the latest salvo on
the opposition would not endear him to the public at all.

Do away with the ISA. Its usage is an abuse.

There are already more than enough laws of all types to deal
with any kind of offence in the country. If the government
feels that it is still not enough, it should introduce more.
But do away with the ISA and detention without trial.

It is very unfair of the DPM and the BN to verbally assault the

oppostion or the minority every now and then just because he
knew he could depend on the loyalty of the media in Malaysia.

The DPM should be aware that despite the wide proliferation of

all kinds of laws and regulations and rules in the country,
criminals are having the time of their lives in Malaysia and
the ordinary man in the street is shaking with fear about his
safety and the safety of his household daily and all the time.

The ISA has never succeeded in eliminating the worst problems

facing our society. Crime and corruption and polarisation are
stiffling us all, yet the top officials are still scratching
their heads about what to do. The alleged terrorists, or CT,
have long disappeared from the scene and to many people, they
are just a distant hazy memory or even a misty legend.

But the so-called ISA is not.

The DPM should wake up and smell the morning odour. Is there a
hint of decaying matter or something else, perhaps he might
want to let us know, since he is so open these days.

Do away with the ISA. If a man has done something wrong, the
authorities should charge him with the offence. But not the
method of putting him away in some dark dank corner for
eternity. And worse, verbally criticising him knowing that
he could not respond. It's an abuse of democracy.

The least the DPM could do is try to be honest for once. The
BN is the one that has abused democracy in Malaysia. Remember
who brazenly robbed the people of Perak of their rights ?
