Subject

 Vehicle speed and exhaust brake can’t operate.

 

Problem/ Complaint

Speed sensor (speedometer) signal wire was loosen and IECU abnormal.

Symptom

When vehicle is driven; speedometer’s pointer is not played and exhaust brake function also can’t operate.

Troubleshooting /Service Step

Firstly checked fault code; no fault. So enter IECU gauge test, all gauge are good. Then checked speed sensor wiring;
VECU to SP socket, SP socket to speed sensor. Wiring was good. Then changed speed sensor from another truck.
Tested the truck, not ok. Checked speed sensor and SP socket. SP socket pin were loosen. Repaired it and tested the
truck. Exhaust brake function was can be operated but millage not operated. So checked IECU gauge test again, now
millage gauge not operated. IECU millage gauge was abnormal. Disassembled IECU and cleaned gauge contact points.
Then tested IECU, all functions were good, problem was finished.

Analysis

The speed sensor is mounted on gear box output shaft. This sensor provides a speed signal to the vehicle electronic
control unit (VECU). VECU pin PB 25 is voltage supply cable to tachometer sensor pin no 1. Supply Voltage is (6.5V-
9V). VECU pin PB 6 is signal cable from tachometer sensor pin no 3. Tachometer sensor pin no 3 is ground cable.
(Remark; This truck is without tachograph, so VECU and speedometer sensor are directly connected with cable.)

VECU speed signal abnormal may be.

(1)Interruption in the ground cable.
(2)Interruption in the power supply cable.
(3)Open circuit in the signal wire.
