GAIS Home Engagement Learning Package (G-HELP)

Subject: Mathematics 3
Grade and Section: Grade 3 Cosmos
Date Covered: Week 2, August 24-28, 2020

Dear Students:

This is your G-HELP for the week. Kindly pay attention to every detail in it so you
will be properly guided in your home study. Your G-HELP will make sure that your
learning journey this Academic Year, 2020-2021, will be on the right track. God be with
you.

I. Concepts:
Content Standard: The learner demonstrates understanding of whole
numbers up to 10 000, ordinal numbers up to 100th, and money up to
PhP1000.
Performance Standard: The learner is able to recognize, represent,
compare, and order whole numbers up to 10 000, and money up to
PhP1000 in various forms and contexts.
Topics:
 Rounding Off Numbers up to 10 000
 Comaparing Numbers up to 10 000
 Ordering Numbers up to 10 000

II. Objectives
The learner should be able to:
 round numbers to the nearest ten, hundred and thousand.
 compare using relation symbols and orders in increasing or
decreasing order 4- to 5-digit numbers up to 10 000.read and
write numbers up to 10 000 in symbols and in words.

III. Key Points to Master

Study, understand and memorize the following:

Rounding Off Numbers

What is "Rounding"?
Rounding means making a number simpler but keeping its value close
to what it was.
Example: 53 rounded to the nearest ten is 50, because 53 is closer to 50
than to 60. But 56 goes up to 60.

How to Round Numbers?

a. Decide which is the last digit to keep
b. Leave it the same if the next digit is less than 5 (this is called rounding
down)
c. But increase it by 1 if the next digit is 5 or more (this is called rounding
up)
d. All digits to the left of the rounded digit must change to 0

Example: Round 74, 165 to the nearest thousands

We want to keep the "4" (it is in the thousands position)
The next digit is "1" which is less than 5, so no change is needed to "4"
Then all digits to the left of 4 must be changed to 0
Answer: 74, 000
(74, 165 gets "rounded down")

Comparing Numbers
Checking which number is bigger or smaller is called comparing. We
use comparison symbols (>, < and =) to compare numbers. Here's what each
comparison symbol means:

How to compare numbers?

a. Always start from the digits at the highest place value.
b. Compare the digits at this place value in both numbers. The number
with the bigger digit is greater.

c. If the digits are equal, move one place value to the right 👉, and repeat
Step 2.
d. For greater than and less than symbols, the wide open mouth of the
symbol always faces the larger number.

Example:
8, 643 > 5, 099
16, 276 < 33, 700
75 988 = 75 988

Ordering Numbers
Arranging a set of numbers in increasing or decreasing order is called
ordering or sorting. To order numbers means to put them in order from least to
greatest or from greatest to least. Ascending order means from least to
greatest, and descending order means from greatest to least. To place
numbers in order, we need to compare them to one another.

Example:
Arrange 987, 546, 2 344, 1 955 to ascending order
Answer: 546, 987, 1 955, 2 344

Arrange 93 702, 761, 8 654, 2 045 to descending order

Answer: 93 702, 8 654, 2 045, 761

IV. Strategies and Assessments

Activity 1: Study, understand and memorize the key points to master.

Activity 2: Watch the following video clips from MATHdali about rounding off,
comparing and ordering numbers. Using a sheet of yellow paper, write what you
have learned from the video clips.
a. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A3hyr52x3yQ
b. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9-YmSOJjSs

Activity 3: Answer the activities on pages 16-28 in your Mathematics book.

Activity 4: In sheets of yellow paper, copy and answer the following. Do as

directed.

I. Round off the numbers to the nearest underlined digit.

a. 3,241= ________ f. 6,178 = ________

b. 49,868 = ________ g. 3,496 = ________
c. 97,142 = ________ h. 75,556 = ________
d. 8,565 = ________ i. 7,218 = ________
e. 27,483 = ________ j. 93,187 = ________

II. Analyze the given comparison of numbers. Tell whether it is TRUE or

FALSE. If the comparison is not correct, write the correct comparison by
changing the comparison symbol.
a. 3,358 > 8,114 f. 14,666 = 14,297
PAGE 2
b. 3,529 = 8,340 g. 2,244 < 4,786
c. 6,767 > 6, 651 h. 28,414 > 75,954
d. 28,445 < 43,622 i. 3,524 > 6,169
e. 51,363 > 39,392 j. 39,539 < 57,797

III. Arrange the following based on the given order.

Ascending a. 1,481 Descending c. 33,679 Ascending e. 47,616

101 43,311 86,825
4,036 18,641 40,300
6,101 31,251 66,613
Descending b. 3,816 Ascending d. 19,102
2,689 26,696
1,598 14,393
1,468 32,486

Activity 5: From Activity 4, choose one item for each test. Record a video of
yourself explaining your answer in the items you chose. Send your video through
my messenger.
