Experiment #3
Title: The Cell: Surface Tension

I. Learning Objectives
 To identify the presence of surface tension.
 Determine how surface tension works.

II. Materials
A. Chemicals/Reagents
 Water
B. Glasswares
 Small Container (for water)
 Dropper
 Coin

III. Procedure
1. Prepare the materials.
2. Place the coin on a flat surface.
3. Fill the dropper with water.
4. Count and drop the water into the coin until it overflows.
IV. Results and Observation

Figure 1: Result of the Surface Tension experiment using the coin.

The water formed a dome as we drop and added drops of water in the
coin, then it popped and the water overflowed.

V. Discussion
The experiment showed two properties, Surface tension and Cohesion.
Surface tension is the property of the surface of a liquid to resist an
external force, due to the cohesive nature of its molecules. cohesion is
used to describe that same particles tend to stick together.

VI. Conclusion
The experiment has achieved to show how surface tension works
while using everyday objects such as dropper, coins, and water. Because of surface
tension and cohesion, we can say that the water molecules are cohesive
because they are same the same particles. This is occurring because of the
hydrogen bonds, bonds that are formed through the hydrogen atoms being
attracted to the oxygen atoms. Thus, forming the dome shape when the water
reaches the edge of the coin. This is the result of the water molecules
clinging together and cohesive forces working together forming an optimal
shape. But it popped, this happened because the more water we add, the more
molecules are added and the larger the surface area gets. it increases the amount
of force gravity that puts in the droplet causing the droplet to pop and lose its
shape.
