Personal Development Plan

Charlie Parkes

How your strengths and opportunities from your SWOT analysis could help you gain
the qualifications needed for an entry level job?

One of my strengths that will help me gain the qualifications that I need for an entry level film
Job is that I have a good knowledge of editing. This skill could help me get an entry level job
as a ‘Junior Level Media Technician’, This job involves being responsible for content
preparation and the feature/trailer creation. This Job also includes training with relevant
equipment like a DVS Clipster, Adobe Premiere, Vantage and Pro Tools. Also during this Job
I would be responsible for making sure that the picture, audio and subtitles are all correct
and follow the industry standards.
Another one of my strengths that will help me gain the qualifications that I need for an entry
level film job is my Knowledge of how a film set works. I could get an Entry Level Job as a
Production Assistant, In this role I would be supporting the agency Project Manager and
Studio Manager with their work across large projects. This role is looking for someone who
has an interest in developing a career in project management
All together my knowledge of Film making would help me get an entry level job in film. This
is because the knowledge of editing, making a storyboard, planning and filming would be
beneficial all together to getting a job in film.

What Type of Entry Level Job would you aim for and how you could fulfil the
requirements?

The Type of Entry Level Job that I would aim for is a Production Runner. This entry level role
is a production role which is looking for somebody who wants to embrace the opportunity of
joining a hard working and creative team. The Job is looking for someone who has an ability
to learn quickly. This Job involves working closely with the Production team, The Content
creation team, the filmmaking team and the casting team to make sure that all the shots run
smoothly. This entry level job wants someone who can take initiative to manage supplies,
props. Arranging order, getting refreshments, stationary and general equipment. The
Production Runner would also have to make sure that the studio, changing areas and any
other working locations are tidy and well presented. The Production Runner would also have
to organise and manage meals for the team when it is required, Manage all the deliveries for
the production team, Book Taxis for travel and Drive the team to the shoot locations.

I could fulfil the requirements for this Job because I know how a film set works and have a
good knowledge of directing, how to use a camera, shot types, editing, scripting and also
can come up with Ideas quickly. This lets me understand the film set and know the
importance of the job as it helps make the entire film set run smoothly.

How can an entry level job could help you get a job within the film industry?

An entry level job in film can really help moving up to a higher position in the film industry.
One of the ways that this would let me get a higher position in the film industry is the
experience that I will gain from being on the film set. Being around all the different people
who have different positions will let me learn how the other positions work and could in the
end help me move up to a higher position.
Another way that an entry level position in film would help me move up to a higher position in
the film industry is by moving up from an ‘Assistant’ to a position like a ‘Manager’. An
example for this would be moving up from a Production Assistant to a Project Manager or a
Studio Manager.
Overall, I could end up moving up over a few years to become an Editor or a Camera
Operator or a Director. The experience would help me move up over a few years and would
help me move to higher positions.

How will you achieve your plan and conclude with what you feel would be your
ultimate film industry job?

There are a few aspects that will help me achieve my plans and decide what my film industry
job would be.

One of the ways that I will achieve my goals is by practising things like editing. By practising
my editing it will continue to improve my skills and can lead me forward and help me reach
my goals. Another way that I could achieve my goals is by directing short films in my spare
time. This will give me more confidence with being a director and will improve my directing
skills. Another way that I could achieve my goals is by becoming more confident with
creating storyboards. This could help me in the future if that is something that I decide to get
into.
Overall, I think that if I was to get a job in the film industry then I would aim to become a
director. I think this would be the best position for me in the film industry because I can play
a major part in creating films and can make decisions that could completely impact the film.
