C. Presenting Based on our activity a while ago and the video that Our topic for
Examples/Instances of being presented, what do you think is our topic for today is about
the Lesson today? conservation
of mechanical
Yes, very good! Our topic for today is about energy.
conservation of mechanical energy.

1. Potential Energy (PE) – is a stored energy by

an object due to position.
2. Kinetic Energy (KE) – is energy due to
change in position. It is also termed as energy
of movement or energy in motion
3. Mechanical Energy (ME) – is the sum of
potential energy and kinetic energy.

Today class we’re going to:

1. define the potential energy and Kinetic
energy.
2. demonstrate conservation of mechanical
energy.
3. Value the importance of conservation of
mechanical energy.

As we go along with our lesson, let me reiterate our

rules in this classroom for us to maintain the school
standards for the safety of everybody.
Rules:

 Eyes – Focus to your teacher not on your

classmate
 Hands- write important key points on your
notebook
 Ears-listen carefully to what is being
discussed
 Mouth-avoid unnecessary noise during
discussion

There are two basic forms of mechanical

Energy: Potential energy which is defined as the
energy associated with height or position (PE = mgh)
and kinetic energy which is associated with motion
(KE= 1/2mv2). Potential energy is type of energy that
is waiting to be used or considered a stored energy.
There are 3 different types of Potential energy.
a. Gravitational Potential Energy (GPE) The
energy possesses by an object due to its position or
location. Thus, the higher the position of the object,
the higher the GPE. An object is lifted possess GPE
b. Elastic Potential Energy (EPE) Anything
that can act like a spring or a rubber band can have
elastic potential energy.
c. Chemical Potential Energy (CPE) A
chemical bond can be thought of as an attractive
force between atoms.

Mechanical energy conservation applies to

GPE and EPE. The principle of the conservation of
mechanical energy states that the total mechanical
energy in a system (i.e., the sum of the potential plus
kinetic energies) remains constant as long as the
only forces acting are conservative forces. This
means that potential energy can become kinetic
energy, or vice versa, but energy cannot “disappear”.
It is only converted from one form to another form like
potential energy converted to kinetic or vice versa.

What form of energy that is known as energy in Kinetic energy Very good
