Class: X Section: A, B & C Period 5th
Subject: Mathematics Time: 50 Mins
Topic: Linear Functions and Relations
Objectives: At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
1. Explain the meaning functions and relations.
2. Give examples of functions and relations and create a graph for the given function.
3. Differentiate and identify linear functions and relations.

Student’s Competency: Representation

Essential Skills/Process: Justifying
Lesson Introduction [Timing: 5 Mins]
• Ask students about the functions of their own body parts and the relation.

Share about the importance of relation with friends and then introduce the topic: Linear
functions & Relations.
Lesson Development [Timing: 20 Mins]
•A relation describes how two variables are connected. For example:
- The relation represented by y < x indicates y is less than x.
- The relation represented by y = 2x + 3 indicates y is 3 more than double x.

For y < x, there are many output values of y for a particular input value of x.
For example, if x = 6, then y could be 5, 4, 3, 2.5, and so on. But for y = 2x + 3,
there is only one output value of y for a particular input value of x. For example,
if x = 6, then y must be 15.
• A function is a special kind of relation where there is only one value of the
output variable for a particular value of the input variable. That means y = 2x + 3
is a function but y < x is not.
(Tr. Will also solve example 1 on the board together with students)
Student Activity [Timing: 10 Mins]
Let students to solve question 1 from PA individually and then ask them to show their
solution. (Rally Table)

Monitoring/ Follow-up Activity [Timing: 10 Mins]

Just check whether students know how to identify whether the given graph is a function
or not and their reasons based on what they tell.
Lesson Closure [Timing: 5 Mins]
Recapitulate the lesson by asking few questions to check their understanding.
Assign question 4 and 5 as a homework from Practicing and applying.
